Hots

1. Who do think has disturbed ‘the fragile balance’ in the sky? How
has this balance been disturbed?
Ans: It is man and only man who has disturbed ‘the fragile balance’ in
the sky. Nature gave man everything in proper and perfect order. Even
the amount of various gases in the atmosphere was in perfect
proportion. Water was sparklingly pure and fresh. The soil was rich
with all its nutrients. But man in his greed and carelessness defiled all
these. He has polluted the whole atmosphere, resulting in global
warming. The very future of mankind is in danger. But who is
responsible for it? None but man himself!

2. Reproduce in your own words the theme of this poem in the

form of a dialogue between Man and the Sun.
Ans:
Man: O Sun, why are you frowning so much?
Sun: O Man, your Earth is drowning in the ocean of pollution. But
I can’t understand why the people of the Earth blame me for it.
I have been here in my place, burning as brightly as ever. Your
planet, after separating from me, cooled and took shape before
my eyes. It was my sunlight that helped to form its different
seasons and different conditions of weather. The human species
evolved on this planet only because I had kept it warm. A
hundred years ago, the people of the earth used to look at me
with great love and regard. They looked upon me like a friend. I
was like a hero to them. But now my reputation has come down
to zero. They accused me of having become exceedingly hot.
They say that the sky remains torn with my heat. But the fact is
that there has been no change in me. I’ve always stayed the
same. It is the Earth that has changed. It is the people of the
Earth that have changed. You people don’t stop your greedy
ways, and have disturbed the delicate balance of the
atmosphere. The situation has become so bad that the Earth is
now very close to its end. You people make so much noise about
‘climate change’ and ‘global warming’. All this noise won’t make
any difference. It won’t stop the Earth from spinning. Even when
all of you are gone, the Earth will continue to spin. I will continue
to be here as I ever have been. Only none of you will be left to
have my sunshine beam on you.
Man: O Sun, you’ve spoken so truly and wisely. I’ll surely try to
make my people listen to what you’ve said. I’ll tell them that it is
not yet too late to right the wrongs they’ve done. Only when all
the people have woken up to the wrongs they’ve done and
rectified them, can there be a smile on your face.
Sun: You’re right. Let your people realise that it is their own
wrongs only that have caused the frowns on my face.
