1 Welcome to the regular meeting of the ____________________________ Group of

Alcoholics Anonymous. My name is ___________________________ and I am an alcoholic.

2 This is (an open/a closed) meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous. We are glad you are
all here - especially newcomers. In keeping with our singleness of purpose we
ask that all participating share their experience as it relates to alcohol. And, of
course, strength and hope is a welcome, too.

3 Let’s open the meeting with the Serenity Prayer (or indicate other prayer or
unique group preference).

4 “Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their

experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common
problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.
The only requirement for membership is an honest desire to stop drinking.
There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. We are self supporting through
our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics,
organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither
endorses nor opposes any cause. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help

5 We ask this not to embarrass you but so that we may get to know you better, is
there anyone here at their first A.A. meeting or in their first 30 days of sobriety?
If so, please introduce yourself.

6 Would anyone from outside the area like to tell us your name, where you are
from and your home group?

7 I have asked ________________________ to read "How It Works", from Chapter 5 of the

Big Book, Alcoholics Anonymous.

8 Tradition No. 7 states "Every A.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting,

declining outside contributions." We will now pass the basket to pay for our
expenses.

9 __________________________ will now read the short form of the "Twelve Traditions" of
Alcoholics Anonymous.

10 It is now time to introduce ________________________, our speaker for today's meeting.

11 (Optional) Speaker picks a topic for discussion. (Optional) Provide a list of topics
(such a list can be found on page 14 of the AA pamphlet “The AA Group”).

12 The meeting is open for sharing; the speaker will call individuals from a show of
hands (or whatever you want your format to say). Keep your sharing to 2
minutes, our timer will signal at 90 seconds.

13 (At _____ :_______ [a specified time] Leader states: That is all the time we have for
sharing. I will now turn the meeting over to our Secretary.

14 Secretary thanks the Speaker as well as those members who participated in

reading, newcomers and visitors, and those who are in service to this meeting.

(Optional) If there are any court papers or house slips __________________________ at
the end of the meeting to be signed.

15 Remind those at the meeting that books and literature are available (or) ask for
literature person to make an announcement.

16 After a moment of silence for alcoholics still suffering in and out of this room,
let’s close the meeting with a reading (such as A Vision For You/The Promises
and/or the Lord's Prayer) or state a prayer of the individual’s choice.
