Sample Question paper - Term II Examination

Session 2021-2022

Set 2

Class : XI Subject: Biology

Time: 2 hours Marks: 35

General Instructions:
i) All questions are compulsory.
ii) The question paper has three sections and 13 questions. All questions are compulsory.
iii) Section–A has 6 questions of 2 marks each; Section–B has 6 questions of 3 marks
each; and Section–C has a case-based question of 5 marks.
iv) There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some
questions. A student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions.
v) Wherever necessary, neat and properly labeled diagrams should be drawn.

Section A

1. Give four significances of mitosis?

2. What are occupational respiratory disorders? Give two examples of such disorders.
Or
Label axon and dendrite in the given diagram of Neuron, give one function of each .

3. Differentiate between estrogen and progesterone. (Write 2 points)

4. What are the main steps in aerobic respiration? Where does it take place?
5. Chlorophyll a is the primary pigment for light reaction. What are accessory pigments?
What is their role in photosynthesis?
6. Differentiate between striated and non-striated muscles.
Section B

7. Define sliding filament theory of muscle contraction.

Or
Describe the process of urine formation.
8. Describe the following words in the context of Prophase I of Meiosis I cell division.
(i) Synapsis (ii) Bivalent (ii) Chiasmata

9. What is meant by double circulation? What is its significance?

10. Write the commercial three uses of Gibberellins (GAs) and Cytokinins (CK).

11. The given figure shows the diagrammatic representation of the mechanism of
protein hormone action.

(a) Name the steps labeled as ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’.

(b) What is the role of second messenger in this process?
(c) How is the mechanism of action of Protein hormones different from the steroid
Hormones?

12. Explain how the transmission of nerve impulse takes place at chemical synapse.
Section C

13. During photosynthesis, light energy is converted into chemical energy in a multiprotein
complex called photosystem. The thylakoid membrane contains two types of photosystems
viz., PS-I and PS-II and each of them consist of multiple antenna proteins containing
chlorophyll molecules and other pigments. These pigments absorb light energy, so that the
photosystems can carry out light-dependent or independent reactions.

i) The products of light dependent reactions are

a) CO2 & ATP b) NADPH, ATP & CO2

c) O2, ATP & NADPH d)O2& FADH2

ii)PS I functions when

a) Wavelength of light is higher than 680 nm

b) NADPH accumulates

c) CO2 fixation is retarded

d) All of the above.

iii) Which of the following is a primary pigment

a) Chlorophyll a b) Chlorophyll b c)  Carotene d) Xanthophyll

iv) Besides water and CO2, which is more essential a raw material for food formation

(a) light (b) oxygen (c) NAD (d) mineral salt

v) Which light is more effective in photosynthesis?

a) Blue b) Green c) Red d) Violet

(b) Electron transport system
(c) Photosystem II
(d) None of these

2. Electrons lost by PS II are regained from

(a) O2 (b) CO2
(c) H2O (d) none of these.

3. Raw materials required for light reactions are
