QUALITATIVE RESEARCH AS AN INDUCTIVE PROCESS

- Researchers gather data to build concepts, hypotheses, or theories.

- Researchers build toward theory from observations and intuitive understandings.
- The pieces of information from interviews, observations or documents are combined and ordered into larger themes as the researcher works from
the particular to the general.

Begins by collecting data that is relevant to the topic of interest.

Once an amount of data has been collected the researcher will then start getting a general view of the data, looking for patterns and working to
develop a theory that could explain those patterns.

That is to say, researchers start with a set of observations and move from those particular experiences to a more general set of prepositions about
those experiences, they move from data to theory, or from the specific to the general.
