Explain two advantages to each group.

Service Learning is a learning method in which students acquire lessons and theories in the
classroom and then apply them outside the comfort of a classroom. This is when students
use what they've learned in class by engaging in community concerns, volunteering for a
cause, and reflecting on their experiences. Students should participate in these activities not
only to earn experience but also to gain reflections and realizations that they will
undoubtedly appreciate and apply in their lives.

Students
● Through service learning, students can gain organizational and interpersonal skills.
Since they will interact with different kinds of people and handle various community
problems, they will surely be able to enhance their social interaction skills,
communication skills, problem-solving skills, and so on. They said that experience is
the best teacher, and through personally experiencing this kind of activity, students
will be able to learn various skills and gain meaningful experience.
● They will be more exposed to their community as well as to the problems it's
encountering. Being more open and exposed to community problems will emerge the
students’ awareness and motivation to help their community be better. They will learn
to engage in the community they live in and the capacity to serve them.
Teachers
● Teachers will be able to improve their lesson plans and classroom strategies in order
to assist their students in learning more effectively. This will test the teachers' abilities
and encourage them to seek out new methods and generate ideas to improve their
teaching methods. This will also aid them in strengthening their bonds with their
students, allowing them to improve their teaching and learning approaches.
● Teachers will feel fulfilled if they see their students learning, not just from their
courses, but from the experiences they provide.
Community
● Because many people are volunteering and participating in activities for the good of
the community, the community will come alive again, and the community will be
united once more, creating an environment that tries to tackle community problems
as a whole. The community will realize that a positive social change is not impossible
if the community members will work together.
● The community will gradually become more aware of its problems. Because service
learning focuses on activities that benefit the community, the community will be able
to reduce its struggles and difficulties. This will also encourage participation from the
members of the community, especially from the youth.
2. Describe the three types of community service.

Direct - this is the community service where students are personally or directly doing the
service activities.
Indirect - This is the type of community service that which the organizer or volunteers have
no ability to directly serve the beneficiaries of the service. Instead, they will donate or
channel their resources to the beneficiaries.
Advocacy - This is the type of community service that is aiming to advocate for various
issues. This is an attempt to bring awareness and inspire people to do the same and take
positive action toward specific issues.

3. Explain why self-reflection is important to community service

Self-reflection is very significant to community service because it gives you an opportunity to

step back and reflect on what you experienced. This will help you to open your eyes and
realize that doing service activities will help you increase your sensitivity and awareness to
community issues. It will also help you to understand the fulfillment of serving the people,
thus, making you more motivated to do it again in the future. Self-reflection will allow you to
look back on what you’ve experienced and take the lessons and teachings it taught you. It
will help you to move your experience, to understanding. Understanding what you did in
service activities and reflecting on what you feel about those. It will also help you to have
self-awareness and consciousness about your skills and your personality as well. You will
realize a lot of things that would let you, not only help your community, but yourself as well.
Aside from that, self-reflection would let you wander all the things you could do more. It will
motivate you to do better and look for better ways to help your community.
