Answer All Questions

1. 100 mL of standard hard water (containing 0.55 g of CaCO 3/L) require 45 mL of

EDTA solution for titration. 100 mL of water sample require 42 mL of EDTA
solution, while same water after boiling required 25 mL of EDTA solution. Calculate
Total and Temporary hardness in degree Clarke.

2. Calculate the total Hardness in degree French for a water sample having the following
analytical data. Ca(HCO3)2 = 0.0462 gm / 2 litre; KOH = 0.0058 gm/litre; MgSO4 =
0.038 mg / litre; NaCl = 0.0589 gm/ litre; Ca(NO 3)2 = 0.0164 gm / litre; MgCl2 = 0.028
gm / 2 litre. Given that the atomic masses of Mg is 24, Ca is 40, K is 39 and Na is 23.

3. A water sample is not alkaline to phenolphthalein. However, 100 mL of the water

sample reached the end point of titration using methyl orange as indicator with 42.5
mL of 0.04 N HCl. What are the types and amounts of alkalinity present in water?

4. A sample of water was alkaline to both phenolphthalein and methyl Orange 100 mL of
this water sample required 28 mL of N/100 HCl for Phenolphthalein end point and
another 16.5 mL for complete neutralization. Determine the types and extent of
alkalinity present.

5. Explain about the bonding, non-bonding and molecular geometry of the molecules
based on VSEPR theory?
a. SiCl4 b. PbCl2 c. ICl4- d. NH4+
6. Explain the E1 & SN1 reactions with mechanism of alkyl halides?

7. Explain the Addition Polymerization using styrene monomer and its free radical
mechanism in detail?
