The national flag of the Philippines is a horizontal bicolor flag with equal bands of royal blue and crimson

red, with a
white, equilateral triangle at the hoist. In the center of the triangle is a golden-yellow sun with eight primary rays, each
representing a province. The Philippine national flag has a rectangular design that consists of a white equilateral triangle,
symbolizing liberty, equality, and fraternity; a horizontal blue stripe for peace, truth, and justice; and a horizontal red
stripe for patriotism and valor. I chose the Philippine national flag as the subject of my mosaic art, as a way of showing
love and patriotism to our beloved country, being a pure-blooded and nationalistic Filipino. It is also my way of showing
honor and kudos to the people who have been representing our country in different nations and for waving our banner,
may it be in the field of sports, media, or politics. Because of them, the Philippines is becoming more known to other
nations and has become more developed recently. I was inspired by the work of Manuel Baldemor, named “The
Philippine People Power” portraying the People Power Revolution of 1986, where a sustained campaign of civil
resistance against regime violence and electoral fraud happened, to free the Filipinos from the ruling of late dictator
Ferdinand Marcos Sr. To me, the Philippine national flag is a symbol of freedom, patriotism, love of country, and a sense
of nationhood, and embodies the aspirations and sentiments of the Filipino people in their unceasing quest for
independence.
