Your timing tag will be attached to the back of your race numbers. Please put the race number on as usual. Please: Always keep the Race Number visible; do not remove or cover with a jacket Do not excessively bend or twist the Race Number. Do not separate the timing tag from the Race Number Only wear the Race Number on the front, making sure the Number is visible on the finish line.

Your Race Number must not be altered in any way. It must not be used by anyone else but you. Fasten your race number securely to the front of your running top or costume. We use this to accurately record your results and identify you crossing the line so your race number needs to be visible at all times.

If there is anything missing please contact the event team at www.edinburgh-marathon.com. If you entered before the 1st May 2011 your race pack will be posted to you by Thursday 19th May. If you entered on or after the 1st May please come and pick up your race pack from our Help Desk at the Hub. If you have not received your race pack by Thursday 19th May please do not worry. You can log on to your my details account and tell us by clicking on I have not received my race pack button. This will alert our help desk team that you may require to pick up a new race pack from the Hub. If your race pack does arrive by race day you do not need to contact us. You can visit the Help Desk at the Hub on Friday 20th May, Saturday 21st May and on race morning.

Your emergency contact and their phone number will be printed on the front of your race number. It is VITAL that we have this information, log on at www.edinburgh-marathon.com and make sure these details are up-to-date. In the event of an accident or illness during the race this information will be useful to our medical team. In the event of a serious medical incident we will contact the person identified on the race number.

Advice at the Start!!


Drink some water before the race to ensure you are well hydrated. There will not be any water provided at the start so please take your own water bottle. If it is a sunny day then please apply sun cream before you start the race. If it is wet or windy please wear clothing to keep you warm prior to the start that you dont mind losing when you take off to run. A large plastic bag is perfect for keeping the rain off and can be discarded when you start. Please bring your safety pins with you on race morning to attach your race number to your running top. Please arrive early as there will be queues for toilets. See map below for toilet locations.

The race starts on Regent Road at 10:00 am on Sunday 22nd May 2011. You can access this area from 08:30 am and we will ask you to assemble in your timing pens at 09:45 am.
Your race number will be one of these colours and they are based on the predicted time that you gave us. Please make your way to the colour of pen that corresponds with the colour of your race number. You are not permitted to move to any other pen. The race crew will direct you once you have entered your pen, please follow their instructions.

Baggage
The baggage tent will be open from 08:30am 09:45am for you to drop off your kit bag. These will be ready for you to pick up when you finish the race. Your luggage tag has your race number printed on it and is attached to your race number which is in this pack. You need to attach your luggage tag to your kit bag before handing it over to a member of the baggage crew. There will be lots of competitors leaving baggage so please leave plenty of time to drop your baggage with us and remember that we will be unable to accept bags after 09:45 am. We can accept rucksacks, sports bags or a bag of the similar size. We cannot accept suitcases or very large bags. Alternatively you can leave your baggage with family or friends.

Getting to the Start


We strongly advise that you use public transport or our prebooked shuttle buses to travel to/from Edinburgh and to/from the start and finish areas. For more information visit www. citylink.co.uk If you or your supporters have to drive please use designated parking areas that we have identified below. Please be considerate to residents in the areas surrounding the route and do not block driveways or public roads.

Medical Problems
Discuss any medical problems or issues well in advance of the race with your GP. This advice supplements anything he or she says. See your GP if you have a problem that makes it a risk for you to run in a long distance endurance road race. If this applies to you, send details of your condition and the treatment by email to info@edinburgh-marathon.com with a note of your running number. We will then add the details of your condition to your record on our system and it will be shared if required with Scottish Ambulance Service. There will be comprehensive medical cover around the course provided by the St Andrews Ambulance, British Red Cross, the Scottish Ambulance Service and Lothian Medicover. It is YOUR responsibility to decide if you are fit and well on the day of the event.

Public Transport:
Buses
Citylink are offering great rates for runners travelling to Edinburgh for the Edinburgh Marathon Festival. If you are travelling within Edinburgh both First and Lothian buses offer bus services on race day. For further information please visit www.firstgroup.com or www.lothianbuses.com.

Not Running?
If you are injured or ill before the race you can withdraw and be offered a guaranteed place for next year. This would incur another entry fee. To withdraw please log into your My Details account on the website and alter your status to withdrawn at www.edinburgh-marathon.com.

Trains

Again we would encourage you to travel by Public Transport however if you must drive please park in one of the designated parking areas identified below. Charges may apply.

Important Information
The Edinburgh Marathon is a running endurance road race over a measured distance of 26.2 miles. It is delivered under a permit from Scottish Athletics. The Race will be run and refereed under the rules of Scottish Athletics. The Edinburgh Marathon is not a fun run or a walk. An endurance road race of this distance is a serious athletic undertaking and should only be undertaken after doing the appropriate level of training. If you are under prepared, unwell or injured you should seriously consider seeking medical advice. The time limit for the course is 6 hours and 30 minutes, which is approximately 15 minutes per mile. There will be a sweeper vehicle travelling at this speed. If you are passed by the sweeper vehicle you will have 2 options: you can continue however you must move on to the pavements or the side of the road as we will have to reopen the roads at this time. Please continue with caution as live traffic will be permitted on the roads when this happens. Your second option is to board the sweeper vehicle and it will take you to the finish.

Finish Area
The finish line is a Runner Only Zone. Your family and friends will not be allowed into this area, but they can meet you in the reunion area later. You will receive medical care if required, be handed a bottle of Strathmore Water, Lucozade Sport, your finishers medal and your Race Recovery Pack which will include your commemorative ASICS t-shirt. The marathon photo team will be waiting to take your picture. You can collect your baggage within this area. There will be some toilets provided here also. Runners should make their way to the reunion area where you can meet your friends and family at the alphabetical reunion markers.

Presentations!!
There will be prizes for the first 3 men & woman and the first 3 Scottish men and woman and first 3 Relay Teams. These will be presented at 1:30pm in the Reunion Area near the finish line on Linkfield Road. All other prizes winners will receive their prizes in the post within 4 weeks of the event. EMF will also be broadcast on Sky Sports.

Transport Information
EMF Event buses will run between 13:00 and 17:30
This is the fastest method of travelling from the finish at Musselburgh back to Edinburgh City Centre. The event buses leave from Wallyford Park & Ride and travel non-stop directly to Edinburgh It will take approximately 15 20 minutes to walk from the reunion area to Wallyford Park & Ride. At busy periods you may have a short wait for a bus. The journey will take approximately 45 minutes The last bus leaves at 17:30. It is your responsibility to ensure you get on a bus before this time.

Spectator Information!!
Pre-booked spectator buses will be located on Market Street, around the corner from Waverley Station. Spectators are welcome to purchase bus tickets from our online shop www.edinburghmarathon.com/?shop. You will be able to download and print your bus ticket from your My Details account in www.edinburgh-marathon.com. You will need to present these to the bus driver. The finish line is on Linkfield road. There is NO ACCESS for spectators to this area. Spectators can watch the finish live from the reunion area on a jumbo screen. Do not attempt to reach the finish line. Spectators can rejoin the runners in the reunion area where there will be a-z signage. Please agree in advance with your runner where you will meet as there will be a lot of people in this area. If you have a while to wait until your runner is due there is lots to see and do in the reunion area or Musselburgh High Street is a short walk away.

EMF Event buses Spectators


Event buses are available to transport spectators from Edinburgh City Centre to the finish area after the start of the race and return after meeting their runner in the reunion area. Bus tickets are available from our online shop at www.edinburgh-marathon.com. You will be able to download and print your bus ticket on your My Details account in www.edinburgh-marathon.com. You will need to present these to the bus driver.

By Train
Wallyford Train Station and Musselburgh Train Station provides trains to Edinburgh Waverley Station throughout the day.

By Bus
There is limited public transport operating in Musselburgh on race day. First buses numbers 44 & 44D will be running. The journey will take approximately 90 minutes. For further details please visit www.firstgroup.com.

By Car
PLEASE NOTE THAT VEHICLE ACCESS TO MUSSELBURGH IS FOR RESIDENTS ONLY. Please do not attempt to take your vehicle to the finish area.

Car parking
Nearby car parks are located at Straiton Park & Ride, Newcraighall Park & Ride and Sherriffhall Park & Ride. The Edinburgh Marathon Festival Hub will be open to the public on Friday 20th May from 9am till 8pm and on Saturday 21st May from 7am till 4pm.

The Edinburgh Marathon Festival Hub kicks off on Friday 20th May through to Sunday 22nd May in Holyrood Park. The EMF Hub will contain Information & Entertainment for runners and their friends and family.

On the Eve of the Edinburgh Marathon we are offering you the perfect nights entertainment. Carbohydrate loaded cuisine followed by comedy performances from Billy Kirkwood and Joe Heenan provided by Comedy Central at Highlight and headline comedian Alun Cochrane.

Alun returned to Edinburgh in 2010 with his sixth acclaimed solo show Jokes. Life. And Jokes About Life which he has subsequently taken on a full national tour. Tickets are priced at 22.50 for this event which includes a two course meal consisting of a cup of tomato and basil soup with crusty roll; spinach and ricotta tortellini with creamy cheese sauce, or meat raviolli with a spicy arrabiatta sauce. These will be accompanied with half a baked jacket potato, crunchy coleslaw, and mixed green salad with dressings - to provide plenty of carbo loading for the next day!
