COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE

-Is a term that was coined in the early 1990s to describe the coordinated use of integrative modalities
along with conventional medical treatment.

-It is different from alternative medicine in that providers who use complementary medicine do not
aim to replace conventional treatment.

ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE

-A range of medical therapies that may include homeopathy, acupuncture, herbalism and others.

-Refers to an intervention that takes place of conventional medical treatment.

-Can also be expensive and they are not covered by health insurance.
FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE

-It offers a patient-centered approach to chronic disease management.

-It seeks to answer the question, “why are you ill?” so you can receive personalized, effective care for
your needs.

-The foundation of functional medicine is the use of food as a first-line therapy. The right nutrition,
combined with lifestyle and behavioral interventions, will help you take charge of your health.
