Module 16 Reflection

Name: Carl Mariel M. Burdeos Section: OM1 Score:

KEY LEARNINGS:
1. One of the most important aspects of planning and scheduling is to develop baseline
standards of productivity and success. Without setting a specific plan in place with a
specific desired outcome defined by a completion date, you won't know if you are
meeting goals.
2. A scheduling tool can help with prioritization by helping you see the bigger picture and
timestamp of progress on all projects. This gives you the ability to prioritize projects
according to your business needs.
3. The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, it is to schedule your priorities.
4. Employee scheduling ensures that all the employees will be treated fairly with regard to
leaves. Management can take a look at the schedule reports and allocate leaves
accordingly. The system can set up how leave is handled, whether on a first come or
seniority basis.
5. With a proper scheduling system, management will be able to allocate overtime hours to
the employees, as well as, keep track of it. This is especially helpful when it comes to
determining the monthly salary of an employee/worker efficiently.

Application to Own Organization

In big organizations, employee scheduling is done by the HR management. A well-
planned schedule is necessary for the efficient operation of a business. If an employee comes to
the office and does not know what to do, it can affect his / her morale because there is no proper
schedule to serve his / her needs and skills. In the long run, it can affect their career growth.
As for the organizations, they will not be able to utilize maximum productivity of the
employees without a proper schedule.
All businesses have to have a smooth and steady flow with respect to its daily operations
to ensure success. When all the employees know their work hours, their responsibility and their
workplace (in the case of external employees), they will be able to give their maximum
productivity. One of the main issue faced by our organizations is the problem with employee
attendance. When there is a proper schedule, management can deal with it properly. For example,
if one employee is regularly coming in late and taking too many leaves, management will be able
to track it and discuss the problem with the employee and take proper action. If there is no proper
scheduling, then there will be conflicts as to which employees should come in at a particular shift.
This can lead to chaos, especially during peak business hours. A proper schedule will ensure that
the right employees are scheduled for a particular shift. For example, a restaurant will always be
busy during lunch and times. Scheduling experienced workers at that time will ensure efficient
and smooth service. It also helps the scheduling to be transparent, which means employees will
not be disgruntled about a particular person getting preferred shift timings.
