Power Electronics
Objective
 Introduction to Power Electronics

Apparatus
 DMM
 Connecting Wires
 Oscilloscope
 Function Generator

Procedure:
In this lab I studied about the power electronics which deals with the processing of high voltages
andcurrent to deliver power that support a variety of needs. The basic functions of Power
electronics are AC to DC(Rectifiers), DC to AC(Inverters), DC to DC(Choppers) and AC to AC
(Converter) conversions. It has many examples of our daily life like using the fan regulator,
vacuum cleaners and air conditioning etc. I performed a small experiment that how the power
electronics works. Imeasured Vrms (Root Mean Square Value) of voltage that has value of 5v
and frequency of 50 Hz. I used a frequency generator by providing it a frequency of 50Hz and
Voltage 5V. The output of frequency generator was connected to the CH1 input of CRO. The CRO
gives a Sin wave as output on its screen. By calculation we calculate the Vrms. Then for further
verification i use DMM and check the measured value with the calculated value, if these values
are close enough it mean our observation is correct.

Observation and Calculation :

Vrms = 0.707 Vmax Vmax = 2.3

Vrms = 0.707(2.3)

 Calculated value
Vrms = 1.62 v

 Measured value
Vrms = 1.82 v

Conclusion
In this lab we measured and calculated V rms value and then verify it if both results were same or
not. In the end both measured and calculated were nearly close to each other so this task was
successful.
