The learner demonstrates understanding of: pre-colonial Philippine literature as a means of connecting to
the past; various reading styles; ways of determining word meaning; the sounds of English and the prosodic
features of speech; and correct subject-verb agreement.
B. Performing Standards:
The learner transfers learning by: showing appreciation for the literature of the past; comprehending texts
using appropriate reading styles; participating in conversations using appropriate context-dependent expressions;
producing English sounds correctly and using the prosodic features of speech effectively in various situations; and
observing correct subject-verb agreement.

children’s interest in the lesson and in learning. Ensure that there is a mix of concrete and manipulative materials as well

IV. PROCEDURES:
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson:
Task 10. Survey-Question-Read: Let the learners do the SQR technique. Ask them to survey the drawing by
asking them what comes to their mind the first time they see it.
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson:
Tell them to read the title of the selection silently and allow them to accumulate questions in mind but they need
to keep them from the moment.

Let them skim the first and the last paragraphs of the selection silently for them to have an overview on what they
will read about.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # 1:
Task 11. Sleeping Beauty: At this point, have them read the text silently and find out if all the questions they had
earlier could be answered by the story.
Give them enough time to read it and then motivate them to answer the given questions.
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2:
Ask them some questions that will lead to appropriate ending of the story and their response if they were the main
character.
F. Developing mastery level (Leads to Formative Assessment 3):
Encourage them to answer some questions to identify what makes the narrative a legend. Let them differentiate a
myth and
a legend.
G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living:
Discuss the input with the class and tell them to copy it in their notebooks for easy reference.
H. Making generalization and abstractions about the lesson:
Task 13. Setting the Scene: Let them recall the important points of the legend Maria Makiling so that they can
complete the given worksheet by describing in details the aspects of the setting as one of the narrative elements.

Let them consider the input discussion to guide them in accomplishing the Setting worksheet.
