The learner demonstrates understanding of: pre-colonial Philippine literature as a means of connecting to
the past; various reading styles; ways of determining word meaning; the sounds of English and the prosodic
features of speech; and correct subject-verb agreement.
B. Performing Standards:
The learner transfers learning by: showing appreciation for the literature of the past; comprehending texts
using appropriate reading styles; participating in conversations using appropriate context-dependent expressions;
producing English sounds correctly and using the prosodic features of speech effectively in various situations; and
observing correct subject-verb agreement.

Have them read carefully at the first and last paragraphs since some writers make a comment that strongly
suggests the main idea or the theme at one of the important parts of the story.

Motivate them to fill out the Subject vs. Theme worksheet with possible subjects about the legend of Maria
Makiling.

Task 17. Plot Me: Ask them to recall the important parts of the same legend and fill out the plot diagram.

The discussion of the plot and its parts are essential for the learners to be guided that the chronology of events
from the exposition to resolution is not always the case because modern writers try to experiment with the plot by
eliminating one or some of its traditional parts to focus on other elements.

Let the learners construct the plot of the legend of Maria Makiling.
