1.     What Impact the SRP had on you and how it has influenced your worldview?

In one week, span of my SRP project in Shakti dhama women centric organisation. I learnt a lot of things
about NGO.

In India, it is common for women to experience violence and gender discrimination. One in three Indian
women, starting at the age of 15, have experienced some type of physical or sexual harassment, according
to a survey by the National Health and Personal Survey. Domestic violence is regarded as usual by 54.4
percent of rural women and 46.8 percent of urban women, according to the same poll.

Women are taught from an early age that they are less than males. They are instructed to rely on the male
role models in their lives. Because of how deeply ingrained these patriarchal and misogynistic attitudes are,
women stop caring about the assault. Numerous women have been forced to suffer in silence due to a lack
of knowledge, unawareness, and fear of societal shame.

Shakthi dhama was founded by Dr. Rajkumar Kannada actor who is very famous for his acting and many
good deeds he has done for people.

After him almost 8 founders are there. I met the famous national poet Dr. Shivaruppa son Dr. Jayadev who
briefed us about why they opened this NGO. He also said before he came into this field, it was very
challenging one and he surveyed women of struggles and interviewed them.

We also got to know about Geeta Shivrajkumar giving her time to teach the women on baking pastries.
Through this initiative some women have also cooked for some guests in 3-star hotel like Southern star.

NGO main intention to run the cause is of struggled, abused, raped women of all ages. This NGO is strong
base for women and children. Here girl children are being taken care of the house mothers allowed by the
NGO. This centre also provided with counselling, intervention, medical help, shelter home as well as social
rehabilitation for the women. We met the women inmates we understood their background, they also
talked about what they aspire to become in future. We had an emotional bonding. Hearing the story of the
inmates we did break down a bit, but me and my teammates applauded their strong will on how they want
to change their life. Many social workers are involved in this NGO where they help them to be in a better
mental state.

This centre also works with the police, where distressed women are been taken care by Shakti dhama.

We also got to know about Devdasi system which is a very heinous act considered as a ritual in some
places. We were really shattered on how this system was done for young age girls. Those young girls are
brought to this NGO and taken care. This NGO is having Kannada medium school from LKG to degree
students. Me and my teammates interacted with the students, we asked them how they are liking the
place and facilities provided by them. They seemed very happy, and a lot of activities had been conducted
for them from the school which is very beneficial in their daily basis life. For example: they must create
report of lunch, on how many ingredients are used, how many grams are used, how to use the cooker how
much water they should put for this much about of rice. So, this shows how the school is teaching them
every detail. I was really impressed on how much importance had been given.

As I have taken HR as one of my specialisations, I understood on how the school administration works. We
understood how the teachers had been recruited for the job roles, how student admissions work, what
criteria should they have.

2. Issues of societal problems and the empathy created in your group concerning the
issues

Domestic abuse against women is the organization's main social concern. Any woman having issues is still
welcome in the group. The group offers the ladies counselling. The women's families are also contacted to
help settle the problems. If the problems are fixed, they may return, or else they may remain for as long as
they choose. Additionally, they receive instruction in a variety of tasks, including sewing. Victims of assault,
those rescued from prostitution, victims of domestic abuse, victims of human trafficking, and the homeless
are all given refuge by Shaktidhama.

We as a group have great acclaim for these women & the children without parents.  Organisations like
these so that we can learn about the corporate world's professional standpoint as well as the value of
offering aid, care, and support to those in need, like these women and their children, so they can emerge
from their dilemma and make a positive contribution to society. The management of Shakthidhama asked
us to let them know how satisfied the children and employees are now that the organisation is being
supported by reputable investors. It was a very good and eye-opening factor for us. Since some of the are
new to work on projects like we understood the main aim and help they give to the society.
