Indonesian singer-songwriter and actress
Is an Indonesian singer-songwriter and actress. Mahalini is the
top five for the tenth season of Indonesian Idol which will be
broadcast on RCTI in 2019–2020.[1] After Mahalini joined
the record company Hits Records, his third single “Melawan
Restu” won him the Indonesian Music Awards 2021 in the
New Artist of the Year category.

Early life and education

Mahalini was born with the name Ni Luh Ketut Mahalini Ayu
Raharja on March 4, 2000 in Denpasar City, Bali Province.
Mahalini was born into a family that adheres to Hinduism and
is of Balinese ethnicity. The first name Mahalini uses a typical
Balinese name. Ni Luh means female and Ketut means he is
the fourth child. He is the son of I Gede Suraharja and Ni
Nyoman Serini. He is known to have two older brothers
named I Gede Dion Raharja and Jody Raharja and one older
sister. Mahalini spent his childhood in the hamlet of Banjar
Aseman Kawan, Tibubeneng, North Kuta, Badung Regency.

Before being interested in the world of music, Mahalini liked


the field of modeling when he was sitting in a kindergarten
bench. The beginning of his interest in music when he saw his
father often singing karaoke at home, Mahalini was interested
and wanted to sing along. Since the 5th grade, Mahalini has
been taking vocal courses to hone her singing skills.
During the 2nd grade of junior high school, Mahalini was
included by his teacher in a vocal group at school. Since then
he became interested in the world of music and participated in
singing competitions on a local to regional level. Entering
high school, Mahalini began to dare to appear as a solo singer.
He is often chosen to represent the school every time there is a
singing competition. When he was in college on the sidelines
of his college activities, he still carried out his singing hobby
by covering songs to upload on his personal Youtube channel.

Mahalini received his junior high school education at SMP


Negeri 1 Denpasar and then continued his education at SMA
Negeri 1 Denpasar majoring in science. When he was in high
school, he received an achievement scholarship for his singing
talent. In 2018 Mahalini continued his higher education at
Mahasaraswati University Denpasar taking the S-1 level in the
Dentistry Education study program. For a year in 2019 he
took a leave of absence from college to participate in
Indonesian Idol then after being active for one semester in
2020 he returned to being inactive during the even semester of
that year to develop a career in the world of music.

2015–2017: Early career and single “Bring Him Back”

Mahalini started his career as a national singer when he was in
the 9th grade of junior high school. This started when
Mahalini was joined by a music producer from Jakarta, Bobby
Sandhora, who was interested in Mahalini’s vocals to make
him a pop singer. Then he was orbited by Sandhora
Production to the national scene by releasing his first single
entitled “Bawa Dia Back” under the auspices of the label
Sandhora and Valf Records. The single release event was held
in the hall of SMPN 1 Denpasar on January 17, 2015.[10]

Furthermore, he appeared as a participant in the 2015 Bali


Province FLS2N event with his school vocal group which was
held at the end of June 2015. After winning the competition
he and his group represented Bali Province to the national
level at the 2015 National FLS2N event held in Semarang.

In 2016, Mahalini had the courage to perform solo in the


competition. He is known to have participated in the Balinese
and Indonesian Pop Song Contest at the Bali Provincial
Language Center on 13-14 February 2016. He won the Bali
Pop Song Contest category A (12–16 years old).[10] The
following year, she won the 2017 Bali Province FLS2N
female solo category and managed to advance to the national
level in the 2017 National FLS2N in Kupang.

In addition, Mahalini is often trusted to participate in the Bali


Song Parade at the Bali Arts Festival for three consecutive
years from 2016 to 2018.
2019–2020: Indonesian Idol and debut single “I’m the One
Who Was Wrong”

In 2019, Mahalini participated in a talent search event, the
tenth season of Indonesian Idol.[11] Previously he had
participated in the same event in the ninth season but failed
during the audition.[12] The beginning of him participating in
the tenth season of Indonesian Idol began with an invitation to
audition for Indonesia Idol in Bali, after passing the audition
in June 2019. Mahalini continued auditioning to Jakarta and
managed to get a golden ticket. In September 2019 he entered
a period of quarantine.[13][14] After passing the audition
stage and going through a competition quarantine process for
4 months, on February 3, 2020, he was eliminated and placed
in the top five.[15] As a former finalist, he is automatically
handled by the artist management company owned by MNC
Group, Star Media Nusantara.

Six months after graduating from Indonesian Idol, to be


precise on August 7, 2020
On August 7, 2020, he and Nuca—who is also an alumni of
Indonesian Idol, released a duet single entitled “Aku Yang
Salah” which was created by Pika Iskandar under the auspices
of the Hits Records label.[16] This marked Mahalini’s
inclusion in the label at the beginning of his musical career as
a singer after graduating from Indonesian Idol.
2021: Single “Melawan Restu”, “Sisa Rasa”, “Promise Us”,
and acting debut

Mahalini released his second single entitled “Melawan Restu”
on March 26, 2020 after a year of graduating from Indonesian
Idol.[17] In composing the song, Mahalini worked as a lyricist
and then he collaborated with Martinus Tintin and Keke
Ananta who acted as composers. Writing the lyrics alone took
an hour[18] and was inspired by his past love story.[19] The
process of composing this song itself took three months and
began in January 2021.[20] This song succeeded in bringing
Mahalini to become the first Balinese musician to gain 2
million monthly listeners on the music streaming platform
Spotify[21] and to win his first award as New Artist of the
Year from the 2021 Indonesian Music Awards organized by
RCTI and LangitMusik.[22]

Furthermore, Mahalini released his third single in 2021


entitled Sisa Rasa on October 22, 2021.[23] This song is a
song he dedicated to remembering his mother who had died 4
months earlier.[24] In the creation of the song, Mahalini again
acted as lyricist and Martinus Tintin as composer.[25]

Mahalini made his acting debut by playing the role of Kanaya


in the film directed by Herwin Novianto entitled Kapan
Moving House, which was channeled through KlikFilm on
December 17, 2021. Mahalini co-starred with Indro Warkop
and Cut Mini, Clara Bernadeth and Abun Sungkar.[26]

After that, to close the end of the year, Mahalini released his
fifth song with the pop genre with Raja Giannuca, entitled
Promise Kita.
