Discrimination

Discrimination is a big issue on our society. People contain standards in which

they can define beauty. Some people who see imperfections on others, does not
appreciate their uniqueness and giftedness. This leads them to discrimination. It has
caused many to feel unwelcome on the society.
The effect of discrimination to our society is that it makes others feel inferior.
Inferiority makes them feel like they are not like others. They feel that they don’t belong
to the society. Many experiences feelings of inferiority because of discrimination. Many
suffers feelings of inferiority especially the poor, those who have different sexuality and
race, and those who experience misogyny.
The poor are most likely the ones who experience feelings of inferiority. Many
people always treats them as lower being because of their status in life. Some people
even hurt them or bully them and makes them feel unwelcome. Some poor people
become beggars on the street carrying small plastic cups begging for others to give
them money. Through this, sometimes they earn money to buy food. Unfortunately,
there are evil people who snatch their money and use it for their own good. Through
God’s love to us, He gives blessings to everyone and also gives them the ability to have
mercy and love others. This ability then becomes a way to help the poor.
People who have different sexuality experience inferiority too. As being born
different from others, many become ignorant about it. Through ignorance, they
discriminate them and unwelcome them to our society. Some people even say they are
not creations of God and it is a big mistake to be someone like them. Having to hear
this, they are hurt. They isolate themselves from others. Some of them overcomes
shame and fear, and comes out to others. As they come out, they show great talents
and abilities in which those who discriminate them does not possess. Unfortunately,
some of them are not able to overcome feelings of inferiority. Most likely, they isolate
themselves for a long time. Being isolated from others for a long time changes their
behavior. This leads them to having low psychological health. It leads them to feel
jealous on others, some may even bear hatred. This is the reason why seeing
crossdressing men and women at all times is unlikely to happen.
Being someone who is different in race also feel inferior because of other
people’s ignorance. The effect of ignorance on people really leads them to discriminate
someone. During the pandemic, there were killings of black people in other countries.
That was clearly a form of discrimination. In the past, people who have different races
were not welcome to restaurants, malls, or other establishment because of their race.
Being treated like that is clearly incorrect. Fortunately, some of the people nowadays no
longer tolerate such act. Some racially different people now no longer feels inferiority.
Misogyny was also a big issue before. Women who experiences misogyny also
isolated themselves from others. They felt useless and inferior. As time passes by,
women proved to others that they are powerful too.
Those who are young or too old also felt inferior. They were often told that they
cannot handle or enact the things that they want because of their age. Those who are
old who are still studying may have also felt inferiority at some point during their
studying. They may have been looked down by others because of their age. The young
ones have wanted to help our society from many issues such as global warming.
Unfortunately, they were often just ignored because many people says their ideas are
useless because they are young and lack experience. Their ideas that might have
brought a change in our society was rejected. Fortunately, these kind of acts are now
rare. As time passed by, the young and old ones proved to others that they are capable
of bringing a change in our society.
Experiencing these kind of acts most likely will change you. Those who feel
inferior should not ever accept the negative opinions of others. They should not let
those opinions label them as someone who they are not. Many people nowadays does
not consider other’s feelings when it comes to giving their opinions. They blabber and
does not care to other’s feelings as they give opinions. We should teach those kinds of
people how to speak up their opinions properly. Negative opinions give negative impact
to those who receive it so they should be mindful of the thoughts that they speak up.
Ignorance is also something that contributes to discrimination. People who have
it are shocked by something different that they see. Since people contain standards in
themselves they have a basis of what they call beauty. If those who bear ignorance
sees someone who does not pass their standards, they discriminate them. It is normal
to have standards but making others feel bad about themselves just because of not
passing your standards is something not to be tolerated.
All of us are not born perfect. There are people who are good in Mathematics but
bad in English. There are people who are good in dancing but bad in singing. There are
people who possess all of those mentioned characteristics but have a bad attitude.
Even if we search on each place, no one is perfect. Even though we are not perfect, we
must keep in mind to try out very best to attain perfection. Perfection not just in intellect
but perfection of our faith and love on God and others.
When we say imperfections, it is not about having imperfect looks, but having an
imperfect inner characteristic such as attitude or faith. If we are determined to be perfect
on the inside, there is a big possibility for it. Keep in mind that nothing is impossible if
we are with God. When we have the perfect inner characteristic, we also have the
perfect outer characteristic in the eyes of our God.
God never created ugly beings, but instead, He created unique beings. Never
think that we are ugly because in the eyes of our loving God, we look perfect. The
perfection of beauty is therefore not necessary. What’s necessary is the perfection of
our inner selves or characteristics such as faith. When someone bullies or discriminates
us, we should not accept such words from them. Their words bear ignorance and
unnecessary opinions. We should only accept positive opinions from others that
empower us and help us gain courage to overcome the feelings of inferiority.
We are individuals that contain giftedness from God. This giftedness could be
having the ability to sing, dance or even speak. Giftedness does not only refer to having
talents, but it is about having the ability to talk, walk, run or think. Giftedness does not
only refer to exceptional or out of the ordinary talents, but it is also about containing the
characteristics of Jesus, which is the giftedness of having the ability to be merciful,
loving and compassionate. Having those characteristics makes you a gifted human
being. If someone tells you that you are not gifted, they are incorrect. Those words that
they have just said contain ignorance and lack of knowledge and deep understanding of
what giftedness is.
We are also individuals that contain uniqueness. That uniqueness could be
having a long hair or even having morena skin. Uniqueness, just like giftedness, does
not have only one meaning. It is a general word and a characteristic that everyone
possesses. Having a morena skin makes you unique. Having white skin also makes you
unique. Having blonde hair also makes you unique. Keep in mind that uniqueness is not
just those difference in you that everyone appreciates and notices like white hair and
morena skin. It is also those difference in your talents, intellect, and love. If you don’t
have blonde hair or morena skin, it doesn’t make you a not unique person. An individual
possesses many unique characteristics that we may have not noticed yet.
Many of us are probably wondering, do those people who are blind, deaf, or mute
contain uniqueness and giftedness? They may have a disability but yes they still have
uniqueness and giftedness in themselves. The question is in what way? Being blind
does not mean it makes you an inferior being because you cannot see. Blind people are
gifted with out of the ordinary abilities or talents such as reading without seeing the word
but by only touching it. Some of them even have an amazing listening comprehension.
What about the deaf? Being deaf makes you unable to hear sound, because of this
many deaf people does not get hurt by other’s opinions because one cannot hear it.
This will give them the ability to be confident.
Some people have disabilities, but they do not deserve to feel inferior nor
unwelcome. People with disabilities also deserve to be treated in the same way as
others are treated. Despite of their particular disability, they are still the same, they are
still human beings like us.
Having disabilities, imperfections, or even failures should not be a way of feeling
bad about yourself. We should always look for the silver lining. “In those dark clouds
contain rain that gives water to the plants below it.” In those disabilities, we can use
something out of it. Looking for the silver lining in each situation will make you
appreciate what you have.
Equality is very important to all of us. Even if we are gifted and unique, that
doesn’t necessarily mean that we will be arrogant about it. We should not belittle others
who have not yet proclaimed the uniqueness in them. We came from the same creator
thus we are all equal.
All of us are God’s creations. As His beloved creations, we should love one
another, as it is what God wants us to do. Imperfections and differences does not make
you inferior. People just lack the ability to appreciate one’s uniqueness and giftedness,
and instead makes negative judgement to someone. We should always remember that
we carry uniqueness and giftedness. We should always appreciate what has been given
to us and be contented on it. Lacking the ability to appreciate what’s there will just make
you search for something very hard to have and instead, you will have nothing.
We may have disabilities that keep us from doing what we want to, but these
disabilities bring up new abilities and talents. Being different in race, gender, sexuality,
and age do not make you an inferior human being. As creations of God, we are made
unique from each other. We should never believe about the negative opinions others
say about ourselves. It is just their opinions. We should not ever let it affect us.
Discrimination is still present in our society but with unity, we can work together to
educate each other. With confidence and courage, we can be the best version of
ourselves. We will be able to stand up for ourselves and not get affected by any
negativity. Having such deep understanding and broad knowledge helps us to create a
better community. A community wherein negativity is unseen and there is no longer any
discrimination.
