PRESENT SIMPLE: AFFIRMATIVE

We use the present simple to talk about habits, permanent situations or general truths. Most
verbs have two forms in the present simple which are based on the infinitive:
infinitive to eat
I / you / we / they eat
he / she / it eats

For the third person singular of most verbs, we just add -s to the infinitive:
to make he makes
to read she reads
to eat it eats

For verbs ending in -s, -x, -sh, or -ch, we add -es:

to watch he watches
to go it goes
to mix she mixes
to wash he washes

Verbs ending in consonant + -y, we remove the -y and add -ies:

to study he studies
to reply she replies
Some verbs are irregular:
to have she has
to do it does
to be he is

QUANTIFIERS: ENOUGH, PLENTY (OF), A LITTLE, A FEW

Enough means "sufficient" or as much or as many as necessary / needed. "Enough" goes
before a noun or after an adjective / adverb.
There are enough chairs for everyone. (E.g. four chairs, four people.)
She is old enough to drive. (E.g. She is eighteen years old.)
Plenty (of) means more than enough / sufficient. When "plenty" accompanies a noun, it is
followed by the preposition "of":
There are plenty of chairs for everyone. (E.g. Six chairs, four people.)
How much money do you have?
Don’t worry, I have plenty.
A lot of / Lots of means a large quantity, amount, or number of:
There is a lot of / lots of milk in the fridge.
There are a lot of / lots of trees in the park.
We have a lot of / lots of money.
He bought a lot of / lots of ice cream.
A little: means a small quantity. It is used with uncountable nouns such as rice or sand, or
with things that are measured in amounts such as liquids (milk, water, juice, etc.). "A little" is
also used when we talk about the concepts of time, money, or space.
There is a little juice.
There is a little time before the movie starts.
There is a little money in his bank account.
A few: also means a small quantity. It is used with countable nouns, such as objects (pens,
apples) and things that are measured in units and not in amounts. ‘A few’ is used when we
want to talk about specific things, such as minutes (a few minutes) or dollars (a few dollars).
There are a few pens on the table.
There are a few minutes before the movie starts.
There are a few bottles in the fridge.
