everend Andrew Di Iulio welcomed over 300 attendees to the Family Bible Con-
R ference. “We are here for one reason,” said Di Iulio, “and that is to worship and
grow in our knowledge of Him.”
Reverend Neil Stewart, pastor at Christ Covenant Church in Greensboro, NC, led
the evening worship. Rev. Stewart was born and raised in Holywood, County Down,
Ireland. He attended Campbell College before studying medicine at Queen’s to become
a pediatrician. While at Queens, God opened his heart to entrust his soul to Christ. In
1999, he and his family moved to Jackson, MS, so he could pursue seminary. Since then
he has pastored churches in rural Mississippi and Savannah, GA. Rev. Stewart is mar-
ried to Catherine, and they have six children.

said. “You can know a lot about God but yet not know enough. If we do not fear God
and keep His commandments, then we are missing the point of life. We are existing but
not living.”

Reverend McDowell led four morning worship services. He explained it is important
to understand that the book of Revelation is about Jesus Christ. Without a clear vision of
Jesus, our discipleship will be wrong. McDowell read Revelation 1:1-11.

T the similarities between our 100th Anniversary Celebration held here on July
2, 2022, and the Grand Opening of Bonclarken held on July 4, 1922, were
many! At both celebrations, the attendees enjoyed a wonderful meal on the front
lawn, enjoyed the fellowship and excitement of a vitally important day in the life of
President Bonclarken, and thanked God for His goodness and mercy in making Bonclarken
such a blessed place for us Associate Reformed Presbyterians.
We welcomed over 300 friends for lunch, the historical marker dedication, and a
Service of Worship as part of our 100th Anniversary Celebration. All of these activi-
ties were planned by the 100th Anniversary Planning Committee, chaired by Jane
Shelton Dale of Camden (AL) ARP Church.
The new historical marker is located adjacent to our main parking area and gives
a description of Bonclarken’s founding in 1922. We hope guests will enjoy read-
ing the information on this marker and learning about Bonclarken’s history. The
Service of Worship featured comments from Dr. Bob Robinson, memories from Rev.
Rick Lewis, and a message from Rev. Andrew Shoger. The service was a wonderful
capstone to a glorious day.
We were pleased to have over thirty entries for our 100th Anniversary Youth Art
Competition. Prizes were given to the various age group winners and Elizabeth
Blackman’s artwork won Best of Show. Elizabeth is from the Cannon’s Creek-Pros-
perity ARP Church in Prosperity, SC.
We are still accepting Bonclarken memories on our website! If you have a
great memory from a visit to Bonclarken, please share them on our website
(www.bonclarken.org).
Throughout 2022, I have been and will continue to write articles about
the beginning, development, and future plans for our conference center.
Past articles described Bonclarken’s beginning and development which led
to Synod’s agreeing to take over governance in 1948. Be on the lookout for

The second boy said, “Why don’t you just pray that God will get you what you
want? He can do anything.”
Sherwood said that it sounded pretty good to him so he made a list of things he
wanted to pray for.
His dad looked at the list and said, “Sherwood, there are things on the list that I
told you that you couldn’t have already.”
Sherwood said, “Yes, but...” Dad cut him off short and said, “Don’t you remember
why I said no? I said no because I love you and you didn’t need those things. They
could hurt you or be bad for you!”
Dad went on and said, “Prayer is like that. We should not go to God with a long
wish list of things we want. He is not like an online store for us to place orders for
things. That’s not what prayer is all about. Prayer is a blessing from God that helps
us talk with God and thank Him for all His goodness to us, and bring our needs and troubles to him.”
Dad told Sherwood that God loves us enough to say “no” to the prayers we ought not to pray.
Sherwood said that he understands now that he should not pray that the girls at school who always made fun of the boys
would have their hair turn purple and fall out. Or that the school bully would get beat up.

Pumpkin painting is a fun, fall craft that my family has always en-

efore cellphones and computers, there was a procedure called, “The Telephone Tree.” If we were having a “work
B from home day” because of a local power failure, the principal would call John, Susie, and Jane who had two or
three people that they were to call, etc. until all personnel had been contacted. I remember that we used it for our
circle at church too, to quickly pass information about a death or a new baby, etc. in the congregation.
When I attended First Gastonia, there was a big cluster of churches in our area (Pisgah, Linden, Crowders Creek,
Boyce Memorial, Providence, Bessemer City, and one in Mount Holly). Occasionally, when we had booked a well-known
speaker, we would invite the ladies from our neighboring churches to the event at our church. Presbyterial meetings are
also a way of clustering churches together. Bringing in other related groups provides an opportunity for fellowship and
an exchange of ideas of what other churches are doing. It is a good time of communication!

a lack of communication from the ARPWM Board to the Presbyterial level to the local women’s ministries. Jana Evans, a
member of Second Presbyterial, looked at the geography of the churches in that presbytery and organized them into clus-
ters. A meeting was held for all ladies in the churches of that cluster, where we talked about how the lack of communica-
tion had caused them to lose their sense of belonging to the denominational community and how it could be restored. As
a result, Second Presbyterial now has a board with a President, Vice President, Past President, Secretary, Treasurer, and a
representative from each cluster. The ARPWM Board meets several times a year and gives information to the Presbyterial
Presidents who pass the info along to the cluster reps who send it to the WM leaders in their church clusters who pass it
to the circle leaders who send it out to their members.
Why have I provided you with a history lesson? Sometimes, in a Presbytery that covers more than one state, commu-
nication is a problem. Perhaps the cluster model might provide better communication to make sure that all ladies get info
that they need and to make all feel like they are an integral part of the Presbyterial. Our Florida and Grace Presbyterials
do not currently have a representative on the ARPWM Board. Maybe a cluster model would help them stay in communi-
cation with what is happening in Women’s Ministry now? We can all do more if we are all doing it together!"

Tomorrow, maybe a mystery for anyone to explore, but today is a gift of 175 glorious years in the Amity and
New Amity’s Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church history, and that’s why this is called the present. In this
year, of our Lord 2022, we shall go forth in faith.
We celebrated our 175th Anniversary for our members and friends of the Amity and New Amity Associate
Reformed Presbyterian Church, of Scotts, North Carolina, on August 28, 2022. A day, that the Lord has sincerely
blessed us with His love and joy.
The service of the day began at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. John Kimmons, of Greensboro, North Carolina who
shared the Gospel. Rev. Dr. Earl Linderman and Erskine Seminary Student - Joshua Feimster [a great-grandson
of Abner and Isabella Feimster, one of the forefathers of this church]; will assist in the service, also.
