Reflection Paper on Life Inside the Womb

As I watched the documentary, I realize how painful it is for women to give birth,
and we men are very lucky because we are not the one who will bear the baby for 9
months. But I respect women specially my mother because of their braveness they
show for laboring. I am also thankful for her for risking her life just to give life for me and
my sibling. On the other hand, the documentary film entitled “In the Womb” by Body
Atlas tackles about the physical development of a fetus from the conception to birth.
And it also shows the different factors that can affect the growth and development of the
baby inside the mother’s womb.

The narrator explained the process of fertilization of the egg and the sperm cell
that will eventually form the embryo. It also discussed the different stages the baby has
to undergo inside his mother’s womb. In less than a month the egg becomes an
embryo. In 5th to 8th week, the umbilical cord functions, the fingers and toes start
forming, and the fetus is one inch long, also the bone forms and begins to be like a
human. In the 14th to 20th week, the mother can feel the movement. Fetus swallows and
excretes. Thumb sucking begins and indicating handedness. If your child is a right-
handed in writing, s/he sucked in his/her right hand when inside the womb and vice
versa in left- handed. Also, the mother is aware of its sleeping and waking times. In the
30th week, the baby is almost independent, has a good chance of survival. In 35th to 39 th
week, the baby’s muscle tone and brain develop. The most awaiting moment for a
mother is the birth of the baby. The baby’s first cry starts its breathing and oxygen
intake causes red blood cells to change its color from blue to pink.

I learned so many things about pregnancy through this documentary. I realize

that anything the mother can hear, feel, eats, drink; really affect the health of the child.
The documentary gives me knowledge on how to take care of the baby inside the
womb, and it also makes me aware of the things that can affect the baby inside the
womb.
