1. a. Find total, external and internal indeterminacy of the following 3

structure.

b. A spherical vessel of 1.5m internal diameter and 5mm thick is 6

filled with a fluid under pressure until its volume is increased by
250cm3. Calculate the pressure exerted by the fluid on the
vessel. Take E = 210KN/mm2, μ=0.3.
c. A bar of uniform thickness 't' tapers uniformly from a width of 7
b1 at one end to b2 at the other end in length L. Find the
expression for change in length of the bar when subjected to
axial force P.
2. Calculate principal centroidal moment of inertia and its direction for 16

b. Draw shear force diagram, axial force diagram and bending

moment diagram of the following frame.

4.
a) Find change in length of the given bar (circular) after the
application of load as shown in figure. Take E = 220KN/mm2

b) A beam of rectangular section of 80 mm to 120 mm carries a

uniformly distributed load of 40 KN/m over a span pf 2 m and
an axial compressive force of 10 KN. Calculate the maximum
fibre stress, fibre stress at a point 0.5 m from the left end of the
beam and 40 mm below the neutral axis.

perpendicular plane as shown in figure. Determine the normal and
shearing stress on the inclined plane at an angle 30 0 with the
vertical. Also calculate principal stresses their directions and
maximum shear stress.

the other end. Determine the crippling load and safe load for the 6
column. Take F.O.S = 2.5 and area of cross section is outside
