Question 4
Read the article on the tips for breaking social media addiction.

There are people who feel like they need to use social media applications on a

5
regular basis. Without it, they become anxious and feel disconnected from the world.
These people can be considered to have social media addiction. However, if there is a
way to fall into it, there is also a way to get out.

The first step to recover from social media addiction is to admit there is a
problem. Some feel the need to constantly know what their friends are doing, how
many followers they have or how “likes” they are getting for a picture or a statement
they made.

Once the first step is completed, the following can be done to help control the
addiction. The simplest way to make sure you are not wasting time in any one place is
to track how much time you are spending on a social media site. Use a stop watch and
set a time limit. Once the time is up, log out and continue tomorrow.

Many times when we are supposed to do house chores or homework, we

procrastinate by browsing social media sites. This is counter-productive so it is best
to just stop it. Finish what you have to do first.

Spending too much time on social media means you are not interacting with your
family and friends on a personal level. When you are out with them, put your phone
away and talk to them face to face.

Lastly only browse social media when you are looking for something. Most of the
time we are just browsing aimlessly. Ask yourself, ‘Do I have a specific reason for
being here?’ If there is no reason, leave it. Whatever it is you see will be the
information you do not need.

Take back your free time, do not fall into social media addiction. There is nothing
to gain apart from losing out quality time with your friends and family as well as seeing
the beauty of our world.

Read the article carefully and answer questions (a)-(i).
