EDUC 51

THE GLOBAL
TEACHER
GROUP 9
To gain insight into what a global teacher is, we, the students of
EDUC 51 under Mrs. Jean Aquino, were tasked to interview two Filipino
teachers- one teaching abroad and one teaching in our country. We
were grouped into five (5) and were permitted to select our own
interviewees. 2 days after the task was given, Group 9 in the names of
Yvonne Sipalay, Ignacio Tandejon, Junry Tapia, Rovic Toledo and John
Wayas conducted a brainstorming on how to conduct the interview.
We made a list of our possible interviewees, weighed our options, and
selected the best ones. On the same day, we made a script for our
interview based on the guide questions given. We then asked the
permission of our interviewees and luckily, they all said yes. We asked
them when is the most convenient time for them to be interviewed
and both of them said they’re only on Sundays. On October 16 2022,
Sunday, the reporters conducted the said interview.

Who is a glocal teacher? What are the attributes of the teacher?
According to the data we gathered, a glocal teacher is
someone who tries to adopt to the global trends in teaching,
connects them to the local, ensures their effectiveness with the
global trends, and also localizes their teaching methods. They are
a skilled, well-equipped, and globally-minded teacher,proper

demeanor and universal principles to instruct students at home

or but is outfitted with both traditional and contemporary
methods from overseas technologies in education anywhere in
the world, at any time.
The teacher has the following qualities.
• Knowing one's own cultural identity and how it affects behavior in the
classroom and one's own personality.

• Acquiring knowledge of and incorporating global perspectives into the topics

one teaches involving children in discovering their role in the world and
learning about it

• When thinking about local, national, and human issues, use examples, tools,
and resources from real-world global contexts.

• Valuing the opinions of students, families, and staff who come from different
cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

• Social responsibility role models in national and international contexts

assisting students in identifying acceptable measures
Can the teacher whom you have
interviewed be classified
as a glocal teacher? Why or why not?
The teachers we spoke with fit the definition of a glocal
teacher since they both exhibit the characteristics that a glocal
teacher should have. They gave their students the tools they
needed to become internationally
competent individuals by
employing 21st century learning evaluations that honed their
analytical and learning abilities.

Even though Sir Ryan James Bonggo is teaching from abroad

and Sir Rhobert Mahinay Longronio teaches here in the
Philippines they are regarded as
a glocal teacher because their
knowledge sharing and teaching methods are not only useful
within a nation but also to the rest of the world. Teachers that
are prepared for the global classroom can teach anywhere in
the globe or explain to their students the differences between
our curriculum and those of other nations.
Can one be a global teacher, without teaching abroad?
Write your insight.

Being a global educator does not require teaching abroad, thus

it is possible to pursue this goal without doing so. It doesn't
matter where we educate; what and how we teach our students
matters. To become a global teacher, one must diversify their
thoughts on teaching and overcome
their fear of interacting with
others and extending their experiences outside of their
communities, schools, and classrooms. The likelihood of reaching
global competitiveness increases with the size of the learning
environment. In addition to this, since our technology have
advanced significantly in recent years, we can now communicate
and learn from individuals all over the world. Global teaching is
therefore no longer limited to the classroom and does not require
us to travel abroad.
Reflect on the statement: As a glocal

teacher, act locally but

think globally.”
As a glocal teacher, you should "act locally but think globally,"
which may imply that even if you teach in your hometown, you still
need to have a global viewpoint and a "world-class" teaching
strategy in order for your students

to comprehend you better. A
glocal teacher is someone who acts locally but thinks globally,
which necessitates that he or she be adequately and fully equipped
with various skills, aware of contemporary technologies,
possessing universal values, and having a wide range of
perspectives.

Reflect on the statement: As a glocal teacher, act locally but

think globally.”
He or she also needs to be open-minded regarding global issues
and events. Even though students
are aware of these concerns,
they might not believe that they directly touch them, thus the
teacher must include a variety of global issues in their curricula,
such as multiculturalism, economic, environmental, and social
issues, as well as how we might address them.
Overall, it was a very memorable experience. We got
a glimpse of both worlds- teaching locally and teaching
abroad. The activity gave us more insights about our
future profession. We’ve realized that every teacher has
unique values for teaching. Moreover, we’ve learned in
our interview that every teacher should aim to become
a global teacher- a competent teacher who is armed
with enough skills, appropriate attitude and universal
values to teach students with both time tested as well as
modern technologies in education in any place in the
world.
