Lito DESIGN PRINCIPLES The connectors are manufactured for voltages up to 400 KV and currents up to 3200 Amps. 2. Materials ; For Aluminium alloy connectors, Aluminium Alloy 4600 (A6) to IS : 617-1975 and tor Copper alloy connectors, Brass grade 3 of IS : 292 - 1961 are used. M.S. Galvanised bolts and units with plain and spring washers are used for fasting. On specific requirements, stainless steel fastenes could also be provided. For expansion type connectors Copper laminations are used upto 132 KV and stranded Aluminium Conductors welded to connectors are used for 220 & 400 KV. 3, The connectors are designed with adequate cross section to withstand the loads imposed on them during installation as well as during service conditions. The current Paths are short and as for as. possible direct. The bolting arrangement is such that the pressure is uniformly distributed over the whole contact surface. 4. Whenever Aluminium and Copper are joined together, Aluminium - Copper’bimetallic strips are provided or the Aluminium connectors are coated with copper to prevent galvanic corrosion. 5. Corona free connectors are offered for 220 KV and 400 KV Systems. By providing'a smooth surface and general radii on the outer surface of the connectors, the voltage gradient is reduced to avoid visual corona and radio interference. 6. Connectors meant for stranded conductors aré provided with adequate space at the end of the conductors groove to accommodate the binding wire put at the end of the conductors. 7. For connectors on post insulators, the mounting holes are slotted, for minor adjustment during installations. TESTING The connectors are tested at approved laboratories or as per IS : 5561 - 1970.
