Introduction to Electrical Transient Analyzer Program.

Objective
 To get familiar with ETAP (Electrical Transient Analyzer Program).

Requirement
 ETAP

Introduction
In this lab we discussed about the use of simulator by the name of ETAP. This program
is widely used for simulation of electrical distribution line or transmission line.

Definition
Electrical power transmission involves the bulk movement of electrical energy from a
generating site, such as a power station or power plant, to an electrical substation where voltage
is transformed and distributed to consumers or other substations.
To analyse the power system ETAP is used to simulate and observe the behaviour of the
transmission line in case of any faulty condition. The interface of the program is divided into
different parts. They are defined one by one.

New project File

First we will open a new page for any project that we want to work on. That is done by
clicking on the new page icon in the corner of the screen which opens a menu in which we name
the new project and click ok.
Project tool bar
The Project toolbar contains buttons that provide shortcuts for many commonly used
functions. Those functions are: Create Projects, Open Projects, Save Projects, Print, Print
Preview, Cut, Copy, Paste, Pan, Zoom, Undo, Redo, Text Box, Grid Display, Continuity Check,
Themes, Get Template, Add to OLV Template, Hyperlink, Power Calculator, Find, and Help.

One line diagram

The one line diagram is automatically selected from different edit modes. The one line
diagram is simply the diagram of our system which we re present with single line connection and
specific symbols of elements.

Workspace
The workspace is the area in which we can place different components and tools related
our power system from element tool bar. The work space if designed having gridded lines but
that can be removed from project tool bar.
Study mode bar
This bar is based on different types of study modes for any circuit or sytem designed on
the workspace. out of them all our program is set on edit mode by default.

Edit mode
Here you can graphically add, delete, relocate, and connect elements, zoom in or out,
display grid off or on, change element size, change element orientation, change symbols, hide or
show protective devices, enter properties, set operating status, and more.

Element tool bar

The element tool bar is on the right side of the screen where you can see the
elements of different types AC and DC. We can place the required element by clicking on that
and place it anywhere on the work place.

Load flow analysis mode

This mode is used to run the circuit and start the flow of current. If the circuit would not
have any error then it will run and show different values of current and voltage on different
points and with different elements. When we are on this mode we can have different options
regarding the system like display option, unit changing, result manager, percentage etc.

Conclusion
In this lab we were introduced with ETAP, and we got to know about its different usages
and functions which will be used to identify the power generation, transmission and distribution.
