CHAPTER 3

3 Overview of the Cabling System Application

The Cabling System application requires specific administrative elements to be in place in order to maintain
the system hierarchy. These administrative elements are considered in the sections that follow.

3.1 Cabling System Overview

The Cabling System application allows users to create Cableways, Pull Pit Branches, Cableways/Pull Pits
material, Pull Pits, Junction Boxes and Cables. The Cables can be routed through the Cableways and Pull Pit
Branches to provide information such as lengths and node schedules. The cabling design process is as follows:

• Cableway/Pull Pit Branches are created early in the 3D modelling process to reserve space in the model
for the Cables and Cableway/ Pull Pit material.

• Cableway Material is also selected from a catalogue specification and added to the Cableways either
automatically or manually and can be added before or after routing Cables on the Cableway.

• Cables are selected from the catalogue, and are optionally connected to equipment items, enter a
Cableway to follow the route of a Cableway network, and leave the Cableway network to connect to
another equipment element. Alternatively, Cables and connecting equipment can also be imported from
AVEVA Diagrams, AVEVA Electrical/ Instrumentation and other 3rd party software using a spreadsheet.

3.2 How AVEVA™ E3D Design Stores Cabling System Modelled Data

As with all AVEVA™ E3D Design databases that

store discipline specific design data, the
topmost element is the WORLD which owns
the administrative sub-level elements SITE and
ZONE.

For Cableway System modelling, the element types used below a ZONE are:

• Cableway/Pull Pit Branches (CWAY)

• Cable (CABLE)

• Junction Box (JNTBOX)

• Pull Pit (PULLP)

AVEVA™ E3D Design (2.1)
TM-1815

3.3 Creating Cabling System Administrative Elements

Before modelling can commence, the required hierarchical elements must be created. On the GENERAL tab,
only SITE and ZONE elements can be created as these are common to all disciplines. The standard Cabling
System hierarchy elements may be created from various options available within the CABLING SYSTEM tab.

Significant elements, e.g. SITE and ZONE should be named to sensibly identify the areas and duties of the
owned elements. The Purpose of Zones must be set to CABL if they are to contain Cableways and/or Cables.
This will ensure they are considered in various forms in the application.

3.4 Cabling Application Defaults

The Cabling Application Defaults form allows default values to be set. These values will pre-populate fields in
various forms used in the creation and modification of Cableways and Cables, and criteria for Cable routing.
Other than Storage Areas, all these default settings will pre-populate various forms in the application. These
settings can be changed if required.

The function of the various values set in the Defaults form will be covered in detail in the relevant chapters of
this guide.

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Settings group, clicking the Defaults button displays the
Cabling Application Defaults form. The form is divided into the following five sections:

Storage Areas
These options lists contain all the available storage areas
(Zones) for the Cableway and Cable elements for the
current MDB.

Cable Data
In this section, the excess (contingency) lengths for Cables
and the proximity distance from associated equipment
used for auto-routing can be set.

Specifications
In this section the Cableway Material and Cable
Specifications can be set, as well as an associated System
Reference.
Also, any Gaps associated with Cableways and the
Minimum Length of straight tray to be used can be set.

Cableway Data
This section allows the default width, height and any
reserved volume sizes for Cableway to be set, and if
RNODES(Route Nodes) are to be created at the Head and
Tail of a Branch.
Also, default settings for Cable routing on the Cableways
can be set, including the Allowable Class of Cable allowed
and Maximum Fill level.

Auto Routing Criteria

Preferences for auto-routing are set in this section,
including if Cables are to be routed on Cableways in Layout
mode or not.

AVEVA™ E3D Design (2.1)
TM-1815

If the Layout Cable checkbox is unchecked, Cables will simply be routed along the Cableway centreline and
will not be routed separately, nor will the route consider other Cables on the Cableways.

3.5 Cabling System Graphics Settings

On the VIEW tab, in the Settings group, clicking the Graphics button
displays the Graphics Settings form.

Selecting the Cabling tab displays graphical settings such as Cableway

Branch Obstruction Visibility/Translucency, Cableway Centreline
Representation, Cable Centreline Representation and the size and
colour of Route Attachment points and Route Nodes. These can be
modified as required.

Alternatively, on the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Settings group,

clicking the Representation button will also display the Graphics
Settings form, with the Cable tab already selected.

The Cableway Branch Obstruction

Visibility/Translucency needs to be set to Solid or a
percentage to be visible in the 3D View.

3.6 Interference Class Defaults

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Settings group, clicking the

Interference Class Defaults button displays the Interference Class
Defaults form.

Interference Classes can be set on Cableways so only Cables of that class can be routed on the Cableway, or
Cableway segment. For Cables, the Interference Class is obtained from the Cable Specification being used.

In Model this form is read only and is used only to display the available Interference Classes that can be set

Interference Classes are created using this form in the Paragon module.

CHAPTER 4

4 Cableways
Cableways are the first phase in the creation of a Cabling System. A network of Cableway Branches can be
owned by a single Cableway. Initially a Cableway Branch will be modelled simply as a volume, but with the
geometry correct so the representation considers bend radii and reserved volumes.

Cableway Branches perform the following functions:

• Define the start and finish points of a Cableway Branch route (known as the Head and Tail in AVEVA™
E3D Design).

• Own route path elements which define the route of a Cableway Branch in the 3D View.

• Position Cableway material (ladder/tray) elements based on the physical path.

4.1 Cableway Hierarchy

Cableways (CWAYs) can own any number of Cableway Branches, and the Cableway Branch in turn can contain
a number of elements that combine to define the Start and End positions, Materials and the path the Cableway
takes between the Start and End positions.

The CWAY members listed below will be explained in more detail as the training guide progresses.

CWBRAN - Cableway Branch CONSEQ - Connection Sequence

CTMTRL - Cable tray material RATTA - Route attachment point

CTSTRA - Cable tray straight RTFEAT - Route feature

CTTEE - Cable tray tee RNODE - Route node

CTBEND - Cable tray bend TATTA - Tail attachment point

CTRISE - Cable tray riser HATTA - Head attachment point

CTCOUP - Cable tray coupling RPATH - Route path

CTRED - Cable tray reducer POINTR - Route Point

4.3 Creating a Cableway Branch

After creating the Cableway, the Cableway Branch Create

Tasks form is automatically displayed.

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Create group, clicking

the Branch button will open this form manually if required.

From this form the Branch Attributes shown below can be

set. These are located in a fold-up panel which can be closed
if required.

The Volume settings define the size and shape of the

Cableway cross section.

The Branch Head and Branch Tail positions define the start
and end points of the Branch.

Checking the Create Orthogonal Route checkbox will give an orthogonal route from Head to Tail.

The Direction Sequence options list allows the user to specify the order in which the orthogonal route will be
created. For example, selecting E-N-U would attempt to route away from the Cableway Branch Head in either
the east or west direction, and then attempt to route north or south to continue the route.

4.3.1 Cableway Branch Attributes

Cableway Branches have a number of attributes which can be defined upon creation. These attributes are
outlined below.

Description, Function and Purpose are general fields for the user to add basic Branch information if required.

Use Material – if this checkbox is checked, then the created Cableway Branch can be dressed with material. If
unchecked, the user will not have this option available once the Cableway route is defined.

Material Type – this setting allows Cables to be correctly routed

on Branches by defining the Cableway type to be used, before the
tray is actually dressed with material.

Perforated tray (for example ladder style tray) will allow Cables to
enter the tray from below, whereas Unperforated tray will not.

Beta Angle – this is the angle of rotation

of the Cableway around the centreline.

Beta Angle = 90 Beta Angle = 0

Use Fixed Bends – this checkbox caters for the use of fixed or variable Risers and adjusts the Cableway volume
to suit. When checked, it assumes fixed bend risers will be used, i.e. a separate component for inside and
outside risers, which have the same inside radius. When unchecked, it assumes a variable riser component is
used, i.e. the same component is adjusted and used for both inside and outside risers. This will give an inside
radius for the inside riser smaller by the tray height. The below example shows a 150mm high Cableway with
a 300mm inside radius set.

When the Cableway is dressed with components, different catalogue components for Inside and Outside
Risers will still be required, even if they are the same purchased item.

Fixed Bends Variable Bends

AVEVA™ E3D Design (2.1)
TM-1815

Inside Radius – this is the inside bend radius that will be applied to the Cableway when routed. Also, when
dressing with material the application will attempt to use the closest Cableway bend or riser component
available to this radius.

Inside Radius = 300 Inside Radius = 600

Open Direction – this is the direction of the open side of the Cableway once it is dressed with material.

N N N

Open Direction N Open Direction U Open Direction D

The Open Direction corresponds to the first section of Cableway routed from the Head, as the application
uses this as a reference to calculate any changes in direction.

It is important to ensure that the Direction Sequence and the Open Direction are compatible (e.g. an Open
Direction of U could be invalid if the Direction Sequence was set to U-N-E or U-E-N); otherwise a warning
message will be displayed.

Justification – this allows the Cableway to be justified in the horizontal plane (Left, Centre or Right) and the
vertical plane (Bottom, Centre or Top).

Justification = Bottom - Right Justification = Bottom - Centre Justification = Bottom - Left

Max Cables – this controls the number of Cables that can be routed on a Cableway Branch.

Setting this to 0 means there will be no set limit on the number of Cables that can be routed on the Branch.

AVEVA™ E3D Design (2.1)
TM-1815

Cable layout – this determines how Cables will be

routed on the Cableway. Multiple Cables can be
routed at once using the Cable Data form, covered
later ln this guide. The position of the first Cable on
the Cableway is defined, and further Cables are
Centre routed away from it as shown, looking in the
direction from Head to Tail.

Left Centre Right Centre

Left Right

Maximum Layers – the maximum number of Cable layers which can be used when filling a Cableway segment

Cable Excess (%) – this is to allow for sagging when the Cable is supported on the Cableway, e.g. if Cable ladder
is used, the Cable will sag between the rungs.

Maximum Fill (%) – this is the maximum fill level allowed on the Cableway. It is calculated based upon the
cross sectional area of the segment on the Cableway Branch.
Current Fill Level (%) – this is the current fill level on a Cableway Branch segment.

Allowable Classes – The allowable classes of Cable which

can be routed along this Cableway is set in this section of
the form.

The Cableway can be split into different segments, and a

different Class can be set for each segment. Segments are
added and removed by clicking the Add Segment and
Remove Segment buttons. For example, POWER and
CONTROL class Cables could be run on the same Cableway,
segregated into their own segments, and with their own
Maxfill% setting.

When more than one segment is added to a Branch, the

Maximum Fill (%) textbox in the Attributes section of
the form is not considered and is greyed out.

TM-1815

The Volume section of the form defines the size and

shape of the Cableway, and the reserved volumes if
required. Clicking the Show Volume Dimensions
Sketch button displays a diagram showing the
volumes.

The Shape options list allows the user to define if the Cableway Branch is Rectangular or Circular. Selecting
Rectangular displays the Width and Height textboxes, and all the reserved volume textboxes. Selecting
Circular will only display the Diameter textbox.

Shape = Rectangular Shape = Circular

The Reserved Volume Left and Reserved Volume Right dimensions allow for a reserved segment on the
Cableway where no Cables will be routed. This can be used in cases where other items are to be routed and
supported by the Cableway, for example a pipe or ducting.

AVEVA™ E3D Design (2.1)
TM-1815

The Reserved Volume Bottom dimension will reserve a volume at the bottom of the Cableway. It is used to
represent the distance between the bottom of the dressed Cableway and the top of the surface the Cables
will rest on, allowing Cables to be routed accurately in Layout mode before dressing Cableways.

The Reserved Volume Top dimension will reserve

a volume at the top of the Cableway where no
Cables will be routed.

The Material Volume dimension will reserve the space occupied

by the external material of the Cableway, to the left and right of
the Cableway.

The Access Height dimensions is the reserved volume

above the Cableway that is required to allow Cables to
be physically added to the Cableway.

to Pick CWBRAN. Once picked, the position co-ordinates and
the connection references are automatically updated.

Branch Off – allows the Branch Head or Tail to be positioned

at a selected point on an existing Cableway Branch. The user
is prompted to Pick the segment on which the Branch should
connect. Once a segment is selected, a route attachment
point is automatically created at the selected point and the
connection references are automatically updated.

Route Attachment Point – allows the Branch Head or Tail to

be positioned at and connected to a selected route
attachment point. The user is prompted to Pick RATTA. Once
a RATTA has been selected in the 3D View, the connection
references are automatically updated.

Route Attachment points are covered in detail later in

the training course.

As well as the basic General Attributes such as Description,

Function and Purpose, the following can also be defined:

The Route Node Type

options list allows the
selection of the type of
Route Node required.

• Takeoff – this is a RNODE from which a Cable can leave or

enter the Cableway.

• Gap – this RNODE will force a gap to be left between the

Cable tray materials and is positioned at the centre point of
the gap. The Gap size is defined by the Gap (Y Offset)
textbox.

• Offset – this RNODE is used to position Transit Glands and

Fittings and is created automatically.

• Penetration – this RNODE is used to hold references of

penetrations and is created automatically when adding a
Managed Penetration.

• Report – this RNODE has no active function but allows the

user to report on the passing Cables and can be positioned
anywhere along the Branch.

Reference Point – this is the reference point (POINTR) from

which the RNODE will be offset.

Offset Distance – this is populated by entering the offset

distance required or by using the Pick… link label.

Proportional Distance – a value of between 0 and 1 can be entered (e.g. 0.5 would be the midpoint
between the reference points).

4.13 Quick Routing and Editing Route Points using the Editor
The Quick Routing can be considered to be a mode of the Editor. The mode is activated by single clicking the
‘dotted’ line of an incomplete route whilst the Editor is also active, or by double clicking when Editor is not
active.

The Quick Pipe Router handle has three representations:

• Extend Route handle - This is used to extend the route in the direction indicated by the handle.

• Cardinal Direction handles - These are used to change the direction of the routing to one of the
cardinal directions from the current frame of reference.

• Rotational handles - These allow the extended route handle to be interactively directed.

Once a Cableway Branch has been created, the Editor can

also be used to route the Branch by using the Quick
Routing tool. Quick Routing can be considered to be a
mode of the Editor

To modify the route of a newly created Branch, double

click on the Cableway Branch to invoke the Editor.

With the cursor over the Cableway Branch, right click to

display the contextual menu and select Quick Routing.

The Quick Routing handles are displayed at the Head

and Tail of the Branch.

5.9 Merging Cableway Branches

When two Cableway Branches are aligned and touching, they can be merged to form a single Branch.

If two different size or shape Cableway Branches, or Branches which have different attributes such as
justifications or reserved volumes are selected for merging, the properties of the first Branch selected will be
retained.

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Tools group, select Merge from the Branch
button options list will prompt the user to select the first, then second Branches to
be merged.

The first Branch picked will be the retained Branch.

After selecting the second Branch to merge, a Confirm form

is displayed.

Any Cables routed on the merged Cableway Branches will

need to be unrouted.

If two Branches are selected that cannot

be merged, for example there is a gap
between then, an Error form is displayed.

If the two Branches being merged are owned by separate Cableways, the first picked Branch will remain and
include the route of the Branch selected second.
If the second selected Branch was the only Branch in a Cableway, the empty Cableway will still exist and can
be deleted.

CHAPTER 6

6 Cable Design

Cables are normally created after the layout of the cabling system has been defined by Cableways. The
Cables are routed along the Cableways to connect to various equipment elements either automatically or
manually. Each Cable has a Cable specification that holds the properties of the Cable. Some of these
properties are listed below.

• Outer Diameter – mm.

4 * 2.5mm2 Cores
• Outer Shield Diameter – mm.

• Uweight /m – Unit weight/metre (kg/m).

Screen
(If applicable) • Resistance – Ohms.

• Reactance – Ohms

• Impedance – Ohms.
Ø 28mm
• MinBend – Minimum bend radius (mm)

• CondGroup – Number of conductor groups (Pairs,

Triples, Quads).

• Dinterference – Default Interference class IClass.

• VoltAC – AC voltage (volt).

• VoltDC – DC voltage (volt).

• Current – Amperes.

• XArea – Cross sectional area (mm2).

6.1 Cable Hierarchy

A Cable consist of an RPATH element which in turn contains POINTR and EXTGEO elements. These together
define the route of the Cables in the 3D model.

• POINTR elements define the route outside of the Cableway (free points).

• EXTGEO elements define the route within a Cableway Branch, referencing RATTA, RNODE, HATTA and
TATTA elements for the start and end of that section of the route.

EXTGEOs are used for listing the Cables which pass through a
certain point within a Cableway Branch.

6.2 Cable Display Options

When a Cable or Cables are routed, the visualisation of the Cables in the 3D View is controlled by the settings
on the Cabling Application Defaults form, and the Cabling tab on the Graphics Settings form.

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Settings group, click the Representation button to display the Graphics
Settings form. The Cable Centreline Representation checkbox controls how the Cables are represented. If
checked the Cables will be shown as dashed, single line representations. If unchecked they will be represented
realistically using the Cable diameter set in the specification of the Cable being routed.

AVEVA™ E3D Design (2.1)
TM-1815

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Settings group,

click the Defaults button to display the Cabling
Application Defaults form. The Layout Cable
checkbox controls how the Cables are routed.

The Routing Status of a Cable will show how a Cable

is routed, either simply Routed, or Routed and Laid.

When checked, the application will attempt to route the

Cable or Cables using the Cable Gap, Spacing and
Touching settings covered in the following section. As well
as the Cableway settings covered previously.

When left unchecked, Cables are simply routed at the

centreline of Cableway Branches.

With Layout Cable checkbox unchecked, the

calculated Cable lengths will not be as accurate due
to all Cables taking the path of the Cableway
centreline. However, this may be adequate in many
cases. The process of routing the Cables can take
longer when the Layout Cable checkbox is checked
due to the additional processing required to
determine the routes of the Cables, but a more
accurate Cable length will be achieved.

6.3 The Create Cable Form

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Create group, clicking the Cable button
displays the Create Cable form. The PowerWheel can also be used to open this
form.

The Create Cable form is split into six sections.

Element Naming

• Name – a unique name can be entered manually or

generated by clicking the AutoNaming button
adjacent to the textbox.

• System – a Cable can be assigned to a system.

Systems are typically created by the Project
Administrator.

Basic Data

• Description/Function/Purpose – these are entered

manually if required.

• Cable Type – optional setting which the user can set

to Conductor, Neutral or Earth if required.

• Proximity Distance – this is the distance from the

Start and End points of a Cable within which Cableway
entry/exit points will be searched for. Cableway entry
or exit points outside this distance will not be
considered when autorouting Cables.

• Fill Check – when checked a check of the fill levels is

carried out automatically when a Cable is routed on
Cableway Branches.

• Touching – when checked, this will route Layout

mode Cables with the edges touching. If unchecked,
the Cable Gap and Spacing textboxes are available.

• Cable Gap – allows the user to set a dimension for the

gap between this Cable and the next when routed on
the same Cableway.

• Spacing – this allows the gap between adjacent Cables to be set as a factor of the Cable diameter. The
largest Spacing setting for adjacent Cables is used.

TM-1815

• Excess Lengths and Extra (mm) – four excess lengths which are added to the overall calculated Cable
lengths are listed

• Excess Length Start – Allows the user to set the Start excess length

• Extra – Allows the user to set the Start extra excess length

• Excess Length End – Allows the user to set the End excess length

• Extra – Allows the user to set the End extra excess length

• Cable Length – this is the total length of the routed Cable, including excess lengths and percentages.

Total length of Cable= Cable Free Lengths + Cable length supported by tray.

• Cable Free Length – displays the total length of the Cable being routed outside of Cableway Branches.
Also, displayed are Start, the free length from the Start Item to the Branch drop on point; Intermediate,
the free length which is any free routed Cable between Cableway Branches and End, the free length from
the Branch drop off point to the End Item.

Cable Free Length = Cable Free Length Start + Cable Free Length End

Cable Free Length Start = Free length of Cable at start + Excess Length Start

Cable Free Length Intermediate = Free length of Cable when jumping between Cableway Branches

Cable Free Length End = Free length of Cable at end + Excess Length Tail

• Routing Status – this identifies the current status of the Cable, i.e. un-routed, routed, routing failed, etc.

Start / End

• Reference – this button allows the Start / End reference to be either entered or
selected graphically in the 3D View. If multiple electrical connections are available on
the selected Equipment element a table is displayed listing them.

• List Equipment – this button allows the user to set the Start / End reference by
selecting from a list of Equipment in a specific Zone or Collection. This is covered in
more detail in a forthcoming section.

Clicking the Apply button will create the Cable and activate the Modify Cable form.

Cables are not be visible in the 3D View until they have been routed.

6.3.2 Setting the Start and End References – Pick Start/End Reference
The Pick Start or Pick End Reference options allow the Start or End of the Cable to be
referenced using the graphical selection of an Equipment (EQUI) or Sub Equipment
(SUBE) element. The behaviour of this option depends on the structure of the element
selected in the 3D View.

When selecting an EQUI or SUBE element in the 3D View, the

ELCONNs owned by the EQUI or SUBE are displayed in the List
of ELCONNs table.

When selecting a SUBE which does not own any ELCONNs, a Confirm form is displayed. Clicking Yes will list
all ELCONNs owned by the owning EQUI element. This also includes any ELCONNs owned by other SUBEs in
that EQUI element.

The creation of Elconns on Equipment elements is covered in training guide TM-1811 AVEVA E3D Design –
Equipmernt Modelling.

6.3.3 Setting the Start and End References – List Equipment

Instead of selecting an item of Equipment graphically, it is possible to use a list by clicking

the List Equipment button on the Create Cable form. This displays a list of all the Equipment
items in a selected Zone. Making the required Zone the CE and selecting Zone from the
options list will populate the Equipment List. Alternatively, the list can be filtered by applying
a rule to the search.

TM-1815

When connecting a Cable to an item of Equipment, there are two possibilities for reference points:

• The Cable can connect directly to the Equipment element, taking the origin point as the actual start / end
position.

• The Cable can be connected to an Electrical Connection (ELCONN) if present. These can be added to any
Equipment element.

Selecting an item of Equipment from the list and clicking the Apply button will update the Reference textbox
on the Create Cable form. The outcome of this is dependent upon whether the Equipment owns an ELCONN.

• If the Equipment does not own an ELCONN, the Reference will be set to the Equipment element and the
Cable Start/End will be positioned at the origin of the Equipment.

• If the Equipment owns one ELCONN, the Reference will be set to the ELCONN. A Warning is displayed if a
Cable is already connected to this ELCONN.

• If the Equipment owns multiple ELCONNS, the List of Elconns form is displayed, allowing the user to select
the required ELCONN.

6.5 Routing a Cable

Once the Cable element has been created, the Create Cable form
is replaced by the Modify Cable form. The Start and End
Reference fields now have a Disconnect End button which can be
used to unset the Cable connection references.

The main change on the form is the addition of the Routing

section which provides various methods for routing Cables. This
is covered later in this chapter.

6.5.1 Automatic Routing Algorithms

The Auto Routing Criteria section of the Cabling

Application Defaults form provides the user with two
methods for determining how a Cable route is chosen:

• Minimise Free Route

• Minimise Total Length

The example Cableway used below is a U-shaped Branch with two Takeoff Route Nodes (RN025 and RN026)
positioned on the longer straight section.

Minimise Free Route – finds the closest,

valid entry and exit points to the Start and
End References, and then finds the
shortest route through the connected
Cableways as shown.

Minimise Total Length – searches all valid

entry and exit points within the Proximity
Distance from the Start and End Reference
points and uses the shortest possible
route.

The example on the left is routed using

Minimise Total Length. As the Takeoff
Route Nodes are within the Proximity
Distance value, they are used as the entry
and exit points to minimise the length of
the Cable.
The Start and End of the Cable are routed orthogonally. The additional route points can be deleted to make
the Cable route straight to the Start or End Reference.

6.5.2 Auto-Routing Cables

The Auto-Route Cable button is used to autoroute a Cable. First the Zones containing Cableways which can
be considered for Cable routing need to be selected. When the Auto-Route Cable button is clicked, the
application will find the shortest route for the Cable through the Cableway Branches within the selected
Zones. The user may choose to select the entire world as the scope of routing by selecting the first option in
the list. How the route is determined will depend on if Minimise Free Route or Minimise Total Length
Automatic Routing algorithm has been selected

Multiple Zones can be selected by using

the Shift or Ctrl key.

The Cable is Auto Routed around the Cableway Branches from the Start to the End references.

The Model Explorer is populated with the Route Path (RPATH) element and its references, and the Modify
Cable form is updated with the Cable Length, Cable Free Length, Start, End, Total Cable Length and Routing
Status.

As stated previously, the POINTR elements define the

free route of the Cable outside of the Cableway
Branches, and the EXTGEO elements define the route
within the Cableway Branches.

6.5.3 Routing Status

The Routing Status options list on the Modify

Cable form becomes active once the Cable has
been routed. This allows the user to change the
routing status of a Cable manually if required.
The Routing Status updates automatically when
the Cable has been routed, or if the routing has
failed.

Changing the Routing Status will result in a

Confirm form is displayed.

6.5.4 Applying the Routing Rules

If a Cableway Branch element has a Routing Rule i.e. (IClass EQ ‘CONTROL’) applied, then the only Cables that
can be routed on this Cableway Branch would be Cables which have an IClass attribute set to CONTROL

If attempting to Auto-Route a Cable which has an IClass attribute set to POWER, it will take an alternative path
to reach its end reference point via Cableway Branches with the Routing Rule IClass EQ ‘POWER’.

If no valid routes exist, then an error message will be displayed.

6.5.5 Un-routing and Deleting Cables

The Modify Cable form also gives the user the option to Un-Route or Delete Cables.

Clicking the Un-Route Cable button displays a Confirm form. Clicking the Yes button will un-
route the Cable.

Un-routing a Cable will remove the Route Path and its associated elements.

Clicking the Delete Cable button will delete the current Cable.

Cables can also be deleted using the common Delete options.

6.7 Defining the Route – Selecting Entry and Exit Points

Clicking the Define Route button on the Modify Cable form displays
the Modify Route form.

The Modify Route form provides a variety of options for manually

defining a Cable route.

The Modify Route form allows Entry and Exit points to be

defined on desired Cableway Branches and then use the
AutoRoute function to find the shortest route through the
Cableways, between these points.

The Pick Routing Branch button allows a Cableway Branch to

be selected in the 3D View.

Once a Branch has been selected, the list below the button
will be populated with all the valid entry/exit points for that
Branch (Head, Tail and Route Nodes)

The currently selected Entry and Exit points will be marked in

the 3D View with <Entry> and <Exit> tags.

The Cableway Zones that contain the Cableways allowable

for routing must be selected in the Routing Options section
of the form. One or more zones can be selected by holding
the Ctrl or Shift key.

Clicking the AutoRoute from Entry to Exit Point button in the

Routing Tasks section of the form will confirm the points, and
the shortest valid route on the Cableway Branches is found.
This option will only create the EXTGEO elements which
define the Cable route through Cableway Branches.

In order to complete the creation of the Cable, the other options in the Routing Tasks
section of the form can be used. The Head Free Route and Tail Free Route buttons
can be used to orthogonally route the Head and Tail sections of the Cable, from the
entry and exit points to the start and end of the Cable.

Alternatively, checking the Auto Head/Tail Free Route checkbox will automatically
apply orthogonal free routes to the Cable Start and End.

6.9 Manually Routing Cables

The Manual Route Cable form allows the user to manually create or modify a Cable route between the Start
and End references. This option works by building segments of Cable route one by one to create the path of a
Cable. A Segment of a Cable is referred to as the path of a Cable within a single Cableway Branch. This option
is particularly useful when Cables jump between Cableways which have no physical connections.

Clicking the Manual Route Cable button displays the Manual Route
Cable form.

The form contains the following button:

Pick Routing Branch - Populates the Select Entry/Exit

from Cableway Branch… list with all the possible
entry/exit/via points on a picked Branch.

The Add Entry and Add Exit buttons will set the
selected reference to the Entry and Exit for that
Segment.

Create Before - creates a new Segment before the

selected Segment.

Create After - creates a new Segment after the

selected Segment

Create at Bottom - Creates a new Segment at the

bottom of the Existing Cable Segments list.

Modify Segment - Modifies the current Cable

Segment.

Remove - removes the selected route Segment.

Add/Remove Labels - toggles the visibility of the

routing reference labels in the 3D View.

Head Free Route - creates the free route at the Start

of a Cable.

Intermediate Free Route - Creates intermediate free

routes between unconnected Cableway Branches.

Tail Free Route - creates the free route at the End of

a Cable.

Delete Free Routes - deletes all existing free routes on

a Cable.

Checking the Automatically Create Free Route checkbox will create free route
to and from the entry and exit of the Cableways, and any free route for Cables
between unconnected Cableways.

6.10 Free Routing a Cable

The Free Route Cable option allows the user to define a Cable route by selecting points in the 3D View. This
could be used to route a Cable through a void, or along a structural section.

The selected route points do not have to be Cabling Application elements and can be any point which can be
obtained using the Positioning Control form. Cableway elements can also be selected, but the system will not
consider the Cable to be part of this Cableway. Consequently, it will not appear in any Node Schedules and
will not affect the Fill Level.

When the Free Route Cable button is clicked, the user is

prompted to Pick to define a position <Esc> to finish. The points
can then be selected, one after another.

When the route has been fully defined, pressing the Esc key displays a Confirm
form.

Clicking the Yes button will create the free route using the picked route points.

6.13 Import Cables

The Import Cables utility allows the user to import Cables and some associated data from .csv or .xls files.

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Tools group,

clicking the Load Cables button displays the
Spreadsheet Import file browser.

Once a .csv or .xls file has been

selected, clicking Open will load
the data and display it in the
Spreadsheet Import form.

As a minimum, the file must contain NAME, TYPE, STAREF and ENDREF columns for a Cable to be imported.
Additional information can be included in files such as Description, ICLASS, SPREF and RANEQUIP for
completeness of Cable data, and to allow the Cables to be routed after import without further modification.
The following example file has the four compulsory fields plus additional information.

When using a .csv file, there must be no spaces between the text fields, and they are separated only using a
comma.

For the Import Cable utility to work, the Microsoft Excel Interop DLL must be installed. This may require
the system administrator to install the .NET Programmability Support for Microsoft Excel.

The Spreadsheet Import form displays the information found within the selected file. Each column in the
Spreadsheet corresponds to an attribute of the Cable listed in rows. The attribute will be set on the Cable to
the value given in the file. There are several options available for controlling the Cables to be imported.

Messages – this section shows any relevant

messages regarding the import data.

Load All Data – this button loads all the

data from the .csv/.xls file.

Load New Data – the button loads only the

new data from the .csv/.xls file.

Cancel – the button closes the form.

The Cables will be imported into the Zone which is set as the Cable storage area in the Cabling Application
Defaults form. If no Cable storage area is set, the Cables will be imported into the Zone that is the CE.

Clicking the Load All Data button will action all the selected Cables in the list, updating the attributes of any
Cables that already exist in the model that have changed in the import file.

Clicking the Load All New button will add all the new Cables in the list to the model but will not update any
attributes for existing Cables.

Selecting one or more items in the list and selecting Process

Selected Items from the right-click options will only action
the selected items. This option will also update any existing
Cables with the attributes in the import file.

After importing Cables, a symbol is displayed adjacent to the Cable name to show the status of the item:

A green tick is displayed when new Cables have been imported successfully.

A yellow square with a blue arrow is displayed if the Cable already existed in
the Model.

An overlapping green and yellow square next to the Cable name indicates the
Cable did not exist in the model but has not been imported. This is displayed
when the Cable is new but was not selected in the list and the right-click
Process Selected Items option was used.

A red square with a blue exclamation mark indicates an error was found in the
import information for that Cable, for example an incorrect End Reference

6.14 The Cable Data Form

The Cable Data form allows the user to perform various operations including routing a single Cable or multiple
Cables (Bulk Routing), helpful for large scale cabling operations.

This utility is useful when routing multiple Cables in

Layout mode, as the routing order can be changed to
avoid Cable crossover at exit points on Cableway
Branches. An example of this will be covered later in
the guide.

The routing order of Cables, together with altering the Cable Layout justification of the Cableway Branches
the Cables are to be routed on can be used to achieve desired Cable routes.

The form uses a series of pages, used to enter details on which Cableway Zones are to be used for routing, and
which Cables are to be routed.

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Tools group, clicking the Cable Data button
displays the Cable Data form.

Alternatively, this form can be accessed by right clicking to display the

PowerWheel, clicking the Cable tile followed by the Cable Data tile.

The Select Cable Zone(s) page

of the form displays all the
Zones in the project containing
Cables, and the number of
Cables in that Zone. The Zone or
Zones containing the Cables to
considered can be selected.

The following radio buttons

define how Cables are selected:

• Load all Cables for selected zones - loads all the Cables owned by the selected Zones and populates the
Cable List.

• Load unrouted Cables for selected zones – loads only the un-routed Cables owned by the selected Zones
and populates the Cable List.

CHAPTER 7

7 Cable Tray Creation

Once Cableway Branches have been routed, they can be dressed with material in the form of Cableway
components. The material can be applied to the Cableway regardless of whether Cables have been routed or
not.

In the Model hierarchy the Cabletray Material element (CTMTRL) is owned by the Cableway Branch element.
This material element will own the Cableway material components such as Straights, Bends, Risers, Tees,
Crosses and Reducers.

7.1 Cableway Dressing Workflow

There are two distinct steps to Cable Tray dressing within the application. The first is Preliminary Dressing.
These elements are always created first, whether using the manual or automatic dressing options which are
covered later in this chapter.

In the Model Explorer these appear as CTSTRA (Straights), CTBEND (Bends), CTRISE (Risers), CTTEE (Tees),
CTCROS (Crosses) and CTREDU (Reducers) elements, beneath the administrative CTMTRL (Cable Tray
Material) element.

The Preliminary Dressing items define the size and basic parameters
of the components that will be used. When using the automatic
dressing options, the system assesses the Cableway Branch that has
been selected and, based on defined criteria, creates a Preliminary
Dressing item for each component. It will, for example, calculate the
distance between two CTBEND components, and fill it with the
appropriate number of CTSTRA elements.

The basic parameters for each of these vary slightly. For example,
a CTBEND has Bend Type (Left of Right), Radius, Angle and Width,
to name a few.

Preliminary Dressing items appear as simple blocks, as shown.

Once the Preliminary Dressing has been created, the material components can be applied. The automatic
dressing options use the information from the Preliminary Dressing elements to select the correct
component. If adding material manually, the components are selected individually.

The material components appear in the Model Explorer as CTRAY

elements beneath the corresponding CTSTRA, CTBEND etc.

Once the material component is added, the Preliminary Dressing

item will be automatically hidden from view.

This option will add Straight components to multiple Cableway Branch

segments which are in a straight line, i.e. a straight leg of a Branch
contains multiple Route Points.

From the Dress part of Branch section of the form, clicking the Multiple
segments in line… link label will prompt the user to Pick near the first
point to be dressed. Selecting a Branch near the point the dressing will
start at will then prompt the user to Pick near the second point to be
dressed. After selecting near the second point, preliminary material
straights will be applied between the two selected points.

The example shown below has four POINTRs and hence three segments in the leg of the Branch. The first pick
was near POINTR1 and the second pick near POINTR 4.

7.8 Multiple Branch Cableway Dressing

The Multiple Branch dressing function allows the dressing of multiple Cableway Branches in a single operation.

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Tools group, clicking the Branch
Dressing button displays the Cableway Branch Dressing form.

The Cableway Branch Dressing form contains a

grid listing Cableway Branches which is
populated using the Select options list.
Navigating to a Site, Zone, Cableway or
Cableway Branch in the Model Explorer and
selecting the correct option from the options list
will add the Branches within that element.
Navigating to a valid element prior to opening
the form will automatically populate the grid.

The First Gap, Intermediate Gap and Last Gap options are covered in the Create Material form in section 7.3.

The grid includes columns which give information on the Branch status.

• MATTYPE – this column shows the Material Type (MATTYPE) setting for the Branch, set when the Branch
was created.

• Specification – the material specification to be used when the Cableway is dressed.

• Dressed – displays the dressing status of a Branch; a green tick designates the Branch has
been dressed, a red circle designates it has not been dressed.

• Supported – designates if the Branch has been supported, using a green tick or a red circle. This
functionality is not part of this training course.

The Offsets, Angle attributes and Dimensions fold-up panels contain

the basic parameter information for the Preliminary Dressing
element.

• Offsets – control the position of the component relative to its

Reference Point (POINTR).

• Angle attributes – control the angle properties of the

component. Changing the Angle, Radius or Riser Type attributes
if the CTRAY (material) already exists will not have any effect on
the material.

• Dimensions – control the size properties of the component.

Changing any of these attributes if the CTRAY (material) already
exists will not have any effect on the material.

Selecting a new material element will automatically update these

parameters.

Clicking the Select Material link label displays the Choose TRAY form.

The Table options list allows the user to select from all the available
Cableway specifications.

The Type options list shows all the available component types in that
specification.

The main grid displays all the components for the current
Specification and Component Type.

The components displayed can be filtered from the cells beneath the
headings. Moving the cursor over a cell will activate an options list
icon. Clicking this will show a list of all the different values for that
field. For example, only components with a Width of 600mm can be
shown.

When an item is selected on the grid, a preview of the component

will be shown in the 3D View on the form.

This should leave one bend option, with

the Item Name of:
T/V-SS/SW5-FE90-L-300-600.

Select this item from the grid and click

Apply.

As the new component is larger than the original 300mm

8.4 Adding New Components

Creating new components uses the same basic form and steps as the modification process. The CTMTRL
(Cable Tray Material) element must already be created for that Cableway Branch in order to create a new
component.

Navigating to a Cableway Branch and making it the CE

and on the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Create group,
selecting Material Element from the Material button
options list displays the Create <component type> form.

The form name changes depending on the current

component type selected in the Select Element list.

The form is the same as the Modify <component> form

covered in the previous section, but with the Creation
radio button selected in the Mode section of the form.

The first step in creating a component is to use the Select

Element list to choose a component to be created. The
fields beneath the Angle attributes and Dimensions
fold-up panels will vary depending on the component
type selected, reflecting the difference in the how
they’re defined, e.g. Risers can be Inside or Outside,
whereas Bends are Left handed or Right handed.

TM-1815

The second step is to define the position of the component.

The position is determined by the Along Route (ZDis) value

in the Offsets section of the form and is relative to the
selected Reference Point.

Clicking the Pick link label adjacent to the

Reference Point textbox will prompt the
user to Pick on the segment which
<element type> should be placed.

Selecting the Branch volume will set the

Reference Point to the previous point and
apply the Along route (ZDis) value in the
Offsets fold-up panel which is the
distance the picked position is from the
Reference Point.

This distance can be changed by entering

a value in the textbox, or by clicking the
Pick position link label and selecting
something to align with in the 3D View.
An origin label and graphical aid is shown
at the position the new component will be
created.

AVEVA™ E3D Design (2.1)
TM-1815

Selecting a component will set the

Reference Point to the position of the
downstream connection of the
component. The new component will be
created directly after the picked
component.

If the Dress backwards checkbox was

checked, the reference point would be
at the upstream connection of the
component, and the new component
would be created before it.

The Dimensions fold-up panel can be used to set

dimensions for the preliminary dressing of the component.
This is not compulsory as these dimensions will be
automatically updated to when the actual component is
applied.

Once all the information has been set, clicking the

Create link label will create the dressed component to
the dimensions specified.

By default, the form remains in Creation mode. To

access the component selection option the form the
Modification radio button needs to be selected.

CHAPTER 9

9 Underground Cabling Networks

Underground cabling networks can be created for the areas where Cables run underground, and can consist
of Pull Pits, Junction Boxes and Pull Pit Branches.

Pull Pits are used for accessing underground cabling

networks for maintenance and Cable pulling. A network of
underground circular Cableways (conduit) are connected
to Pull Pits and link them together.

Pull Pits can be modelled in a similar way to Equipment

elements using primitives or can be added as Templates.

Junction Boxes – these act as an interface between

underground and above ground Cable networks –
underground Cableways terminate at Junction Boxes as
they come above ground.

Junction Boxes can be modelled in a similar way as

Equipment elements using primitives or can be added as
Templates.

Alternatively, Junction Boxes can be created with no

geometry and be placed where the underground
Cableway terminates directly at an element, for example
at the base of a street light.

Pull Pit Branches – these are the circular underground

Cableway Branches that link Pull Pits and Junction Boxes

In some cases, where a Pull Pit Branch needs to

terminate at an item of equipment, a junction box
with no primitive is used as the Head or Tail
connection point of the Pull Pit Branch.

In this example, the Junction Box has no primitive

and is positioned at the base of the light, providing
a termination point for the Pull Pit Branch

When created, a Junction Box contains the following elements:

• A Junction Node (JNODE) is automatically created with every junction box

and used as connection references for Pull Pit Branches. If Unset (No
Primitives) is selected in the Spec options list, this will be the only element
created.

• BOX - a primitive if the Spec option is to Unset (Use Primitives)

• TMPL – a template element if the Spec option is set to a Template as

9.3 Pull Pit Branches

A Pull Pit Branch is simply a circular Cableway Branch or conduit used for routing Cables through an
underground network. They are used to connect Pull Pits and Junction Boxes at a PULLN or JNODE.

A Pull Pit Branch uses the same CWBRAN element type as the above ground rectangular Cableways and must
be owned by a CWAY element.

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Create group,

clicking the Pull Pit Branch button displays the Create
Pull Pit Branch form.

When creating Pull Pit Branches, a new CWAY element

is created automatically as the owning element. This
CWAY is created in the Zone specified in the Create
CWAY in this Zone section of the form. This Zone will
default to the Cableway storage area set in the Cabling
Application Defaults form but can be changed if
required by navigating to a Zone and clicking the Set
Zone button.

The Cableway Branches section of the form is used to

define the Diameter and Bend Radius of the Branches.

A CWAY can own multiple Pull Pit Branches that connect

between the same two Pull Pits and/or Junction Boxes.
These are created automatically by defining the number
of Branches required and the Horizontal and Vertical
spacing in the Cableway Branches section of the form.

The No Tail Pull Pit/Junction Box checkbox is used

to create Pull Pit Branches that are only connected
to a single Pull Pit or Junction Box at the Head. The
Tail position is defined by entering a Straight-Line
Distance value from the Head position.

Checking the Manual Route checkbox will still

allow the Head and Tail connections to be set as
described previously, however an additional Route
Points tab is included on the form which allows
Route Points to be added, removed or replaced.

The Head and Tail of the Branch must be connected

to a Pull Pit or Junction Box when using the Manual
Route option.

Checking the Mark All Nodes checkbox will display

and label the Route Points in the 3D View.

When automatically routing the Branches, checking the Use 90degree

Bends where possible checkbox will attempt to create an orthogonal
route for the Branches, where practical.

9.4 Dressing Pull Pit Branches

Pull Pit Branches can be dressed with material in a similar way to rectangular Cableway, covered previously in
Chapter 7 of this guide.

Pull Pit Branches differ when compared with standard Cableway

Branches as the Material element (CTMTRL) is automatically created
when the Pull Pit Branch is created.

For standard Cableway Branches the CTMRL must be added as a

separate step.

9.4.1 Dressing Pull Pit Branches- (Worked Example)

In this Worked Example, the single Pull Pit Branch CWAY-LT-F3/B1 created previously will be dressed.

Navigate to CWAY-LT-F3 in the Model Explorer. Ensure it is in the 3D View.

Before a Pull Pit Branch can be dressed, the Diameter needs to match an existing diameter available in the
specification being used. In this case, using the ALLIED-ARC-MET (Aluminium Rigid Conduit) specification, the
nearest diameter available is 155mm.

Click the CABLING SYSTEM > Modify > Pull Pit Branch button
to display the Modify Pull Pit Branch form.

Enter 155mm in the Diameter textbox and click the Modify

Cableway/Branches link label.

Close the Modify Pull Pit Branch form.

9.5 Routing Cables Through Pull Pit Branches

Cables can be routed through Pull Pit Branches using a similar method used for routing Cables on standard
rectangular Cableway Branches, covered previously in this guide. The behaviour differs as follows:

• Layout mode for Cables does not apply for Pull Pit
Branches. They will always be routed along the
centreline of the Branch.

• By default, the maximum number of Cables that

can be routed through a single Pull Pit Branch is 3.
Once a Branch is filled, the next Branch of the
required IClass will be used to route any further
Cables.

• This value can be changed on the individual

Branches by using the Cable Branch Modify Tasks
form and changing the Max Cables setting. This
needs to be considered when deciding on the
number of Branches required.

9.5.1 Routing Cables Through Pull Pit Branches- (Worked Example)

In this Worked Example, three Power Cables will be created and routed from the distribution box MCC-2 to
the three lights LT-F4, LT-F5 and LT-F6 using the underground network.

Clear the 3D View then add the following elements:

• ZONE-PULLPIT-AREA02

• ZONE-PULLPIT-AREA03

• ZONE-CWAY-PULLPIT-AREA02

• ZONE-CWAY-PULLPIT-AREA03

Chapter 10

10 Cable Tray Volume Converter

Prior to the release of the Cabling System discipline, it was possible to

create Cable Trays using the Piping-based Cable Tray discipline. This created
the Cable Tray as a PIPE element.

The Cable Tray Volume Converter function allows users to convert Pipe
based Cable Trays created by the CABLE TRAY discipline into Cableway
volumes (Cableway Branches). The application works by checking for any
changes in tray width and changes in direction on a TEE or a CROSS element
and creating new Cableway Branches at these points.

For each CTRAY converted, a new Cableway (CWAY) and Branches are created.

Further POINTR elements are created for any change in direction (BEND/ELBOW) in the tray and added to the
RPATH of the respective Cableway Branch element. For each CROSS or TEE on the tray a new RATTA is created
under the CONSEQ element of the Cableway Branch. If a CROSS or TEE has a leave/arrive point at an angle,
then a new Branch will be automatically created from this point.

10.1 The Cable Tray Volumes Form – Cable Tray List Tab

On the CABLING SYSTEM tab, in the Create group, select Cable Tray Volume
from the Cableway button options list to display the Cable Tray Volumes
form.

The Cable Tray List tab is used to

define which Cable Trays that are to
be converted.

The list displaying the CTRAYs to be

converted is populated by navigating
to a Site or Zone in the Model
Explorer before opening the form, or
by selecting the relevant World, Site
or Zone radio button from the Select
level section and clicking the Refresh
Grid link label. The list contains
information on the Pipe Spec, Head
Connection and Tail Connection for
the CTRAYs.

The Storage Areas section allows the user to select the ZONE
for the creation of the new CWAYs. Navigating to a Site in the
Model Explorer and clicking the Load Zones link label will
populate the options list with all Zones in that Site.

If a ZONE is not selected, the CWAY elements will be

created in the same ZONE as the selected Cable tray.

Right clicking on a list entry displays a menu as shown:

A red circle or a green tick is displayed in the Pipe-Spec column in

the populated list signifying the status.

The Volumes for this Cable tray are not present or created.

The Volumes for this Cable tray have been created.

The Set Cableway Branch Attributes section of the

form allows general attributes such as Description,
Function and Purpose to be set, and specific Branch
attributes such as Cable Excess (%), Maximum Fill (%)
and Height of the CWAY.

The Bend Radius Auto and Manual radio buttons are

used to derive the bend Radius used. With the Auto
radio button selected, the application will attempt to
replicate the bend radius of the original CTRAY bend
being converted.

The Bend Radius options list is used to specify if the

radius is applied as an Inner Radius for the Cableway
Branch, or as a Centreline Radius.

The Interference section of the form includes the following radio buttons:

• Cable Route Rule radio button allows a rule to be entered into the textbox.

• Standard Iclass radio button allows a selection to be made from the options list.

10.1.1 Cabletray & Cableway Associations

Associations are automatically created and tracked during the Cabletray conversion process to maintain a
record of all Cabletrays that have been converted. These associations are stored under an Association Group
(ASSOGRP) element and can be accessed at any time by clicking the Show Association Manager link-label to
display the Association Manager form. The Purpose attribute is pre-set to TBAS to filter for Cableway and
Cabletray associations.

The Associations section of

the form displays all current
associations for the selected
filter. The form also displays
the Status of the
associations, the First
Associated Element and the
Second Associated Element.

The Restrictions and

Association Detail sections of
the form display further
detailed information about
the association selected in
the Associations grid.

If a converted volume is deleted, the association related to the volume also becomes invalid and must
be deleted manually using the Association Manager form.

Right clicking on a grid entry displays a

right click menu which gives options
for highlighting, navigating to the
association elements and exporting.

Each radiused side wall has a 75mm straight section

at each end to facilitate connection to Speedway
straight ladder
Speedway Reducers

Speedway reducers are used to create coplanar

reductions in widths between straight ladders and
straight ladder & fittings of the same ladder type,
fulfilling the same role as abrupt reducers and
short/long adjustable couplers but using a purpose-
made fitting capable of self-support as part of a
Cable run.

Speedway straight reducers (RS reducer straight) are

used to create a concentric reduction, having an
equal width reduction along both sides. Left hand
reducers (RL reducer left) and right-hand reducers
(RR reducer right) are used to create offset
reductions to suit installation requirements. Left
hand reducers have the width reduction on the left
when viewed from the primary width. Right hand
reducers have the width reduction on the right
when viewed from the primary width.

Speedway reducers are available for widths of 150mm to 1050mm as standard. The widths of the Speedway
reducer are measured along the length of the two rungs. These measurements ensure that the Speedway
reducer has an exact width to match the Speedway straight ladder.

The Speedway reducer has an overall length of 500mm irrespective of ladder type and width reduction.
