PROBLEMS
ENCOUNTERED:
Since I am currently staying in Peerless
Subdivision, I had a hard time
commuting to CHO because of the
traffic and the morning rush hour.
ALTERNATE
COURSE OF ACTION
qualitative
IMPROVE ABILITY TO INTERVIEW PATIENTS
AND DO PHYSICAL EXAMS ON BOTH ADULT
AND PEDIATRIC PATIENTS.
CONSULTATIONS:
PEDIA: 25
ADULT : 20
DAY 1 MONDAY
09/19/22
We began our 2nd week of rotation with a courtesy
call and group prayer with Dr. Fabrigas. My partner
and I were designated at the City Health Office. We
met Dr. Teresita Salinas. When we arrived there, we
immediately started the consultations since there
were a lot of patients already lined up. I really
appreciate Dr. Salinas teaching us how to compute
for pediatric doses and double-checking our PE
findings.
Reflection:
I learned that counselling the patient or guardian
about their medications is important. There was a
pediatric patient who came back for follow up with
no improvement because the mother did not follow
the instructions given. As a result, we had to shift to
higher antibiotic which is more expensive.
DAY 2 TUESDAY
09/20/22
My second day at CHO was
busy yet fun. Most of the cases I
encountered were cough and
colds and punctured wounds. I
also had a mentally challenged I realized that with
patient with a second degree trauma cases, we should
burn on the thigh. When I was be more inquisitive about
taking the history, I only focused how it happened
because the patient
on physical signs and
might be suffering from
symptoms. But when Doc
abuse or dealing with
Salinas interviewed the patient, mental health issues.
she looked for signs of abuse or
self-infliction. Thankfully, it was
accidental. REFLECTION
DAY 3 WEDNESDAY
09/21/22
Today was another day of consultations. Aside from the
usual cases of cough and colds, I also encountered
pediatric patients with impetigo and amoebic dysentery.
We met Dr. Pabello, a young doctor whose in charge of the
TB-DOTS clinic. We also had our didactics about
Tuberculosis in the Children discussed by our groupmates,
Joy Chu and Chelsea Flores. It was an interesting topic.
Reflection:
I really enjoyed our time with Dr. Pabello as we were able to
talk about relatable stuff like her life as a medical student.
She gave us tips on how to survive clerkship and how to
study for the board exam. I also discovered that treating
children with tuberculosis can be challenging because their
symptoms differ from those of adults and we must
approach them differently. Along with eradicating
tuberculosis in our community, we also need to get rid of
the stigma that goes along with it.
DAY 4 THURSDAY
09/22/22
Today was our last day in CHO. I can say that my
prescription writing and dosage computation skills had
improved. Today, I encountered patients with chest pain,
cough and colds, punctured wounds and skin allergies.
Reflection:
I can say that my experience at CHO was really fun yet
productive. The doctors, nurses and other staff are all kind
and accommodating and I was able to come across
various cases.
