There is no doubt that corruption in the Philippines is a colossal issue

that needs to be solved . In 2006, it was confirmed that the Philippines

indeed had the worst corruption rates in the entirety of East Asia. It has
little improved ever since that year.

The story that brought Filipino corruption into light, was of Ferdinand
Marcos. Ferdinand Marcos was the Philippine president from 1966-
1986, and also participated in the House of Representatives and
Senate. Rather than saying he was a president, most Filipinos would
call him a dictator . During his early days in politics, Marcos did not do
much to help or harm the Philippines. For example, in World War II he
claimed to be a great leader in the Filipino Guerilla Resistance
Movement, …show more content…
As mentioned before, Marcos used massive crowd violence on his
opposers. Plus, he created a government in which the gap between the
rich and the poor was more massive than ever, and where only certain
people that he liked had power. The people were certainly outraged
and staged many uprisings. One of the most famous uprisings was by
the supporters of Cory Aquino, which caused a revolution in the
country. People power was a form of non-violent revolution which was

EDSA ( one of the longest highways in the Philippines) , in which
ordinary citizens marched in place of resistance against Marcos.

wage gap is still humongous, and the infrastructure isn’t getting any
better. For example, you can only acquire a decent education if your
family has money, but if you don’t have the money to pay for it you are
abandoned by the schools. Also, the corruption has caused a pretty low
moral in the Philippines because the mindset that you can’t get
anything good by working hard is engraved in most of the people’s
minds. For some people, corruption is great because they get to work
in high government positions and gain a lot of money for their families.
But, most of the populations is suffering greatly due to the corruption in

The U.S definitely has taken care of the Philippines many times as it
has once even owned the country. The U.S still cares for the
Philippines today, but it may seem as though the Philippines is a
nuisance to the powerful country. During the aftermath of Typhoon
Haiyan, the U.S sent it aid to help the people of Tacloban. However,
the government stopped the aid and said they needed official
documents and other papers in order to enter the area. Several news
stations in the U.S heard about this, and emphasized how ridiculous it
was the the Filipino government was not allowing foreign help to get to
their own people. One station particularly said that it was so absurd
because it was not like the Philippines could provide the aid
themselves.
