b) identify classroom set-up in multigrade classes that promote cooperative

c) determine the roles of teacher and students that promote cooperative


learning; and

d) plan a cooperative learning environment for multigrade classes


What is
cooperative
learning?
Cooperative Learning is an instructional strategy in
which small groups of students work together on a
common task.

The task can be as simple as solving a multi-step math


problem together, or as complex as developing a design
for a new kind of school.

• In some cases, each


group member is
individually
accountable for part
of the task; in other
cases, group members
work together without
formal role
assignments.
Organizing the Physical Space
A well-organized classroom will contain:

• Space • Display area

• A variety of different learning • Flexible desk/chair combinations

• Places for students to work

1. Decide on your topic.

2. Check the syllabus objectives for the topic.

3. Decide what your completed center will look like.

4. Write a range of task cards for the topic at different levels.

6. Collect resources to put in the Learning Center. Make sure there are
resources related to each of the task cards.

The role of the teacher is very important for the success of cooperative
learning groups in the classroom. As the students are learning the cooperative
learning skills, they need to be:
