Vectorel: A quantity such as velocity, which

has direction as well as magnitüde is a
vector quantity.

Scalar: Quantities with no directions

associated with them such as mass, time,
and temperature.

Vector Kinematics - Unit Vectors

✓ A unit vector is defined to have a magnitude exactly

equal to one.
✓ Unit vectors 𝑖,Ƹ 𝑗,Ƹ and 𝑘෡ point along the positive x,y,
and z axes, respectively.
✓ The components of a vector V can be written as,
V=(Vx) 𝑖Ƹ +(Vy) 𝑗Ƹ +(Vz) 𝑘෡

6
Projectile Motion

Motion of objects moving through the air

in two dimensions near the Earth’s
surface, such as a golf ball, a thrown or
batted baseball, kicked football, and
speeding bullets.
