Professional Development: Task 2 – Working

Practices and Skills (U3: LO 3.2, AC 2.1 & 2.2))
You are required to carry out the following three tasks to complete this
assignment. I’ll be looking for these headings on your page:

Skills Audit Analysis: This section is designed to get you thinking about your own
strengths as well as identifying things you’d like to be better at.

Transferable Skills Analysis: We’re then going to look at skills you feel can be
applied to the course and your career as an Esports professional, which you may have
learned in other aspects of your life.

Identifying and applying effective working practices: Finally, we’ll look at some
established effective working practices which you’ll discuss the importance of. You’ll
then grade yourself out of ten for each one.

You can copy and paste the relevant tasks of this worksheet on to your
Weebly page in order to complete for submission

• Use this worksheet to help you construct your response to this section of
the assignment brief.
• You will be given certain assignment tasks to be completed in class
• You may also undertake ‘extended learning’ outside of the class time
when required
• You will use your Weebly page for your response. No hard copy is
required, but you are advised to keep any work safe by uploading it
digitally.
• You must reference ALL sources that you use in researching this
assignment, and this must be made clear in your response.
• Remember, plagiarism will result in your work being failed and possible
disciplinary action taken.

The first task we’re going to look at is a skills audit…

Task 1 – SKILLS AUDIT ANALYSIS (Do this task on your Weebly page)

Part 1: Look at the twelve skills and place them in order of difficulty, with the most
difficult first (you can do this by cutting and pasting them in order):
Time management
Motivation and staying motivated
Getting started on work
Memory
Effective use of session time
Evaluating own work
Working with others
Speaking in front of people
Reading skills
Presentation skills
Writing skills
Use of IT skills

Part 2: Now use the ‘traffic light’ system to highlight which you feel is the most or
least difficult for you (you can do this by changing the text colour)
Red – major priority which needs working on a lot
Amber (or yellow) – difficult, but manageable
Green – confident

Part 3: Write a few lines of what you can do to turn each of the red and amber
priorities into green.
Time management/Memory – I’ve started using a calendar and reminders to help
me to section out my days. This makes it easier to manage my time and
remember what I have to get done.
Motivation – I'm making sure that I look at the end goal of the things I take
interest in.
Getting started on work – The exact same as motivation, looking towards the end
goal seems to help.
Effective use of session time – making sure I get all my work done in a specific
time is difficult but again I believe looking towards the end goal works for me.
Evaluating own work – I think I need to realise that I can always improve what I
put out

Task 2 - TRANSFERABLE SKILLS CHECKLIST (Do this task on your Weebly

page)

This is the second task. It’s about skills which you can use on the course which
you may have used in other situations…

Highlight as many of these transferable skills which definitely apply to you…

Next, choose ONE transferable skill from each coloured section which you might
identify as being your strongest (you might highlight four skills for Leadership,
but which is your strongest?).

Write a little next to each of these Identifying how you have used each of these
chosen skills AND how this skill might be useful on the Level 3 Esports course.

Computer/IT skills – Doing computer science has set me up with some basic
skills and having a pc at home makes it easy for me to get the hang of new
software quickly
Assemble / Make things – I took design technology and made a table completely
from scratch although im not the most creative person.
Spreadsheets – I find spreadsheets easy to understand as ive used excel a lot.
Speak in public – Speaking out loud clearly is easy for me to do as I don’t find
myself getting very nervous. There is sometimes where I find myself forgetting
words but overall, I am pretty good at speaking clearly and getting my point
across.
Write clearly – I tend to always proof read my work to make sure it makes sense
when someone reads it to themselves.

Task 3 – IDENTIFYING AND APPLYING EFFECTIVE WORKING PRACTICES

(Do this task on your Weebly page)

OK, for this one I’d like you to give a brief description of how you can apply
each of the following twenty effective working practices to the Level 3 Esports
course and why these are considered important. Also grade yourself out 10
for each one

1 Punctuality – 9/10 a very important practice as a lot of people judge you

on this. If you’re late consistently, it doesn’t leave you with a good
impression. Especially in esports, lets say youre late to a tournament
game, the team could be depending on you and you might not even turn up
on time ruining the event for the rest of the players.

2 Motivation – 5/10 staying motivated is the best way to ensure you are
staying ahead of every other work practice. If youre not motivated you
wouldn’t want to stay punctual, review your work and etc.

3 Review your work (at end of session or assignment) – 7/10 This is

important as making sure you clean up silly mistakes could be the
difference between a good and a bad job. Let’s say you was writing an
essay, if you make silly grammar mistakes, proof reading and reviewing
your work could easily fix these problems and get you a better mark.

4 Plan ahead – 7/10 Not something I do but planning is important to make

sure you don’t go off track. For example, writing an essay again, sticking to
a plan is the best way you can make sure you write about the correct thing.
If you just wing it, you can easily loose track.

5 Be organised – 6/10 This has the same implications as planning ahead.

Staying on track for your day.

6 Create good workday habits – 5/10 This is good as it ensures you’ll have
energy throughout the day. Keeping to plan, making sure you don’t
overwork yourself and staying healthy with exercise during your day is
great. Especially in esports, you’ll want to maintain a healthy lifestyle by
keeping away from a screen for a while

7 Keep promises to colleagues – 10/10 Not even just colleagues, keeping

promises is important. If you promise to finish off work, do it. If you
promise to play in a tournament game, do it.

8 Prioritise work – 8/10 Making sure you prioritise work is also up there
with the most important practices. For example, you may need to complete
some work before you can compete competitively but if you don’t finish the
work, you would make the rest of your team angry.

9 If unsure, ask – 10/10 Being confident enough to ask how to do the work
is very important. It helps you get back on track and nobody judges you.

10 Maintain concentration and focus – 6/10 This one may be hard for many
but staying focused ensures you do your work properly and don’t fall off
task. This can also help improve the quality of work you output.

11 Watch your language – 5/10 Some people may not like foul language
such as swearing. Especially any words that could come off as offensive to
others, just don’t say them at all.
12 Give positive feedback to others – 6/10 this is a good practice as it helps
others improve as well as yourself. Instead of yelling at someone, try to
give them constructive criticism as it will help them improve their workflow

13 Share the credit – 8/10 If you didn’t do the work alone, don’t take the
credit all by yourself. Including others is a critical part of making good
impressions leading to others trusting you and wanting to help you in the
future.

14 Be a team member – 7/10 Make sure you work with your team. The best
thing you can do to make the quality of a presentation better for example is
to work with your team and try to improve eachothers work.

15 Avoid complaining – 3/10 Don’t complain at people. It just gives people a

bad impression. Instead use constructive criticism. This will help your
colleages improve themselves as well as maybe help you out.

16 Find a mentor/become a mentor - ?/10 This is quite good as a mentor

can help you to better yourself and becoming one would help others.

17 Effective time management – 5/10 this is important as you want to be

able to plan your days effectively. Making sure you only spend so much
time on a break so that you can get back to work without losing motivation
or not overworking by spending too much time on one task.

18 Taking a short break – 10/10 this is important to increase workflow as

sometimes all you need is a quick break to get your energy back and the
motivation you need to keep working.

19 Recognising errors or mistakes – 8/10 recognising an error or mistake is

incredibly important in improving your skills.

20 Seeing opportunities – 7/10 also ties in with making risks. Making sure
that if you see an opportunity to go for it instead of holding back. High risk
high reward.
Worksheets can be completed digitally or by hand.
If completed by hand these must be scanned in or photographed to a decent standard.
