Micro Codes
Error codes: If one of the following error is detected, a message along with
an error will show as follows.
• Sometimes the module will turn off or shut down outputs to protect the
system.
• Do Not use the machine if an error message is activated. The LED indicators
will show the different Micro error.

Error Code
Refer to the electrical prints
MC42 refers to the microprocessor DOUT 7 referrers to an assigned
used, see the schematic. function in this case the DS inside
spray head is assigned to function
7 using pins 47 & 59.

Open load = The circuit is not

seeing the load device, for
example a coil, to activate the
spray head.
Check for a bad coil or an open
connection or wire. Overload = The circuit has too
much current being drawn so the
pin will shut down to protect the
micro and give the error code.
Check for a bad coil, connection,
Pin C1:59 referrers to Connector 1, pin 59. or short in the wiring.

Error Code
Micro is Not Seeing The Display

When the system first starts up the display looks for the micro-
processor that it is going to load the program for. If the display
does not see the microprocessor it gives an error code saying,
“No body detected”.

The cause of this problem could be the CAN bus error, see the
next page.

Check to make sure the micro-processor has power to it and all

the connectors, pins and sockets are in good condition and not
bent or broken.

If there are power and a good CAN connection the micro may be
defective.

Error Messages
CAN Bus Error

CAN errors (Ground Force uses a yellow and green twisted

pair wire).
• Shorting of wires to each other or short to a ground or
battery.
• Open CAN wires from a cut wire or, poor wire connection.
• Termination of CAN bus system incorrect. Caused by not
enough resistors, too many resistors, or a bad resistor(s).
• Two nodes with the same CAN identifiers or a bad
identifier (address resistor).
• Mixing of 250kbps and 500 kbps on the same bus.
• Voltage difference between CAN nodes Shows a poor
ground, could be an intermittent problem. 9
Checking CAN Cable Connection
Between The Display & The Micro
If you suspect the CAN wiring is bad, the easiest test is to measure resistance. Turn
the key off and measure resistance across CAN+ and CAN-, which are typically ports A
and B of the plugs. If you have an auto-ranging multimeter, adjust it so that the auto-
ranging feature is set for ‘small’ values of resistance, 200 ohms or less.

The resistance across any ‘device’ line should be 60ohm; this includes the PC plug and
all microcontroller or display plugs. If you see infinite resistance (open circuit) or no
resistance (short), you have a problem in the device line directly between your test
point and the connection with the backbone (the rest of the CAN circuit). If you see
120ohms there is probably a broken wire in the backbone. You can tell on which side
of the device line the break has occurred by removing first one and then the other
terminating resistor. The side that is properly connected will make the measured
resistance change as the resistor is installed or removed. You can then move to the
next device line and perform the same test to identify the location of the break.

If you remove one terminating resistor and measure across those ports, the resistance
should be 120ohm. If you have infinite resistance (open circuit) there is a break in the
backbone. If you have no resistance (short) the CAN+ and CAN- lines are shorted
together.

If the resistance measurement is not either 60ohm or 120ohm and is not shorted or
open, there is a problem with the terminating resistors. The resistors are either an
improper resistance (each should be 120ohm) or there are too many resistors in the
circuit. When too many resistors are installed, device line resistance is typically either
40ohm (3 resistors) or 30ohm (4 resistors). This is not common unless after-market
additions have been made to the machine.

CAN wiring is typically either a twisted pair with yellow (CAN+) and green (CAN-) or
insulated, shielded, communication wire with black (CAN+) and white (CAN-). It is
likely that there is more than one CAN bus per machine, so care must be taken when
trouble shooting to ensure that you are testing on one bus at a time.

Current Carrying Overload Problems
Micro Feedback circuit
Basic operation: The positive current is supplied by the micro from the OUT_31
pin, this positive current goes to a load like a solenoid coil. The other side of the
coil is hooked to pin OUT_11 and when activated it creates the ground to
complete the circuit. When OUT_11 is deactivated the current stops and voltage
spike from collapsing magnetism in the coil is dissipated by the blocking diode to
protect the micro from voltage spikes. With this pin configuration the micro can
monitor a broken wire or a high current in the circuit and notify the operator
and/or shut down the function of the pin to protect the micro.

Causes of the micro overload error code

• Bad coil: Unhook the coil and check the continuity to make sure the coil is not
shorting out. Check the voltage of the coil to make sure it is the correct
voltage for the system. (Replace if it has failed).
• Failed blocking diode: Unhook the diode and check the continuity of the diode
in both directions, there should be continuity in one direction and no
continuity when the leads of the meter are switched. Verify it is installed in
the correct direction.
• Short to ground: Check for pinched, or frayed wiring causing a grounded wire.
(see next page for procedure to check for ground)
• Too much current draw on the output pin. (Over 3 coils hooked to the pin)
• Failed micro 11

To check for a short in the spray head wiring

1. Disconnect the power to the system.
2. Unplug the connector to the micro (see next page).
3. Disconnect the coil(s) going to the water pump solenoid(s).
4. A blocking diode is not required on a proportionate coil.
Other coils require a diode which may be built into the coil
or the diode is in the micro box on a terminal strip. Mark
the direction, when disconnecting the diode(s) from the
circuit. (When connecting the diode back up make sure
the diode is replaced in the same direction.)
5. Check continuity of the wires with one lead of ohm meter
going to chassis ground. If the meter is showing a short,
locate and repair the short in the wire and retest.
Once there is no short, hook the diode, coil, and micro back
up and retest the system.

sensors may need to be
programmed to the micro
processor. Contact Ground

for programing the
position sensor to the
microprocessor.

14
Other Electrical Problems

• Blown fuse: Check for the cause of the fuse to fail and
repair. Replace the fuse with the correctly sized fuse,
see the electrical print.
• Check for a loose pin in Deutsch plugs: Replace or
push the loose pin back into the Deutsch plug.
• Check the Deutsch plug to see if any water has gotten
pass the seal of the connector: Clean and dry the
connection and retry. It may be necessary to put a
guard over the coil connections to protect against
pressurized water entering.
• Look for broken or shorted wires: Repair as needed
• Poor ground: Clean corrosion from the ground area and
tighten the grounding lug as needed.
• Bad Coil: Replace the coil.
• Bad micro: Replace the micro controller.

Other questions:
• The effects of a bad address ID resistor would be the
display, micro or sensors would not be seen.
• The effect of a grounded CAN would be a CAN bus
Error.
• The effect of crossed CAN wires would be a CAN bus
error and the lights on the micro will flash 3 red, 4
yellow.
