Lesson Title Properties of exponents.

Content Area This lesson covers properties of exponents. This content is made for grade 9 th and
10th. This topic is covered in foundations of algebra class.

Content Standards MFA.AA.2 Students will interpret and use the properties of exponents. a. Substitute
numeric values into formulas containing exponents, interpreting units consistently.
(MGSE6.EE.2, MGSE9-12. N.Q.1, MGSE9-12.A.SSE.1, MGSE9-12.N.RN.2) b.
Use properties of integer exponents to find equivalent numerical expressions. For
example, 32 x 3 -5 = 3 -3 = 1 3 3 = 1 27.
(MGSE8.EE.1) c. Evaluate square roots of perfect squares and cube roots of
perfect cubes
(MGSE8.EE.2) d. Use square root and cube root symbols to represent solutions to
equations of the form x2 = p and x 3 = p, where p is a positive rational number.
(MGSE8.EE.2) e. Use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve triangles based on real-
world contexts (Limit to finding the hypotenuse given two legs).
(MGSE8. G.7)
.
Technology 1.2. b -Students engage in positive, safe, legal and ethical behavior when using
Standards technology, including social interactions online or when using networked devices.
1.6.c- Students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating or
using a variety of digital objects such as visualizations, models or simulations.

Pacing It is student paced tool. Where the students will solve 14 problems as a wrap-up for
the day.

Hardware Used For evaluating, the lesson needs computer and a projector to project the questions
for the class.

Bloom’s Taxonomy Remembering, applying, analyzing and evaluating.

Integration Level Level 4: Integration
Universal Design This lesson allows all students to participate in class. The activity that is planned
Rationale for the lesson is easily available to all the students on their laptops, if any student
doesn’t have a laptop or wishes to do it on paper, it can be printed and provided to
them for the work. It is very easily adaptable activity. The students can also use
different devices and talk-text, text-talk or translation software to help them as their
needs. This lesson builds on their knowledge about exponents and its properties.

Lesson Idea - Prior Prior to the SRT tool, this lesson would have been a small paper document or slide
review about the properties of the exponents. Students would have answered the
similar questions but instead of an activity like this, they would have done
individual work on paper.

SRAT Purpose This SRAT activity is designed to assess prior knowledge of the student to the
lesson topic. This can also be thought as a quick review of the knowledge the
students have about the exponents. The SRAT activity allows students to answer
questions and win some rewards and move along the activity.

Question Types All the questions in the activity are multiple choice because these type of questions
moves quicker in a review lesson type.

Lesson Idea - Students will go on think link provided to the through the screen and log in on to
During the quizizz, once the students are in the activity, the teacher will start the activity.
When the students are working on the problems, I will walk around the class to see
how the students are doing. After each question, the students will get some reward
boxes in the game and as they select, they receive some sort reward through the
activity. This activity is completely anonymous, and no student will know who the
other players are.
The materials students will use are their notes from the class about the properties of
the exponents. This activity will be 20-30 mins long, but if students need more
time, extra 10 mins of the time will be provided to them to finish.

Lesson Idea - After Once the students finish their work, the teacher will show the percentage of the
class and how they all did as one unit. Later, the teacher will also go over the
problems most of the students missed and explain them how to do it.

Data Plan The data will be used to see what most of the students missed. If there are such
problems, the teacher will go over that problem and explain the students what the
problem was asking and how it should have been done. The data is what is
collected by the software by each student response to each of the questions.
Going over the missed questions by the students will help students understanding
and misconceptions. Students will see this information on the board which will help
them. Learn and review on what they missed.

Personal Learning I am trying Quizizz to collect the data about how much my students know and what
Goals needs to be recovered in the class. But this just not do that, it also helps my students
to review their knowledge.

Design Reflection I think this activity will help me and my students much better. This activity will
help my students see how much they know about the topic and what they have
missed in a very playful way. Whereas for me, I will be able to see the data and
make a decision to move forward or recover the topic based on the data that will be
collected. This lesson is a wrap up activity to the lesson and it can be furthered by
using it for the introductory lesson for the next topic that is also connected to the
same content area. There are many other technology tools that could further
enhance this project, such as kahoot and desmos
