 OVERVIEW OF DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS;

1. Marketing/ Merchandising:
Merchandiser is the bridge among the organization and the customer. He has get to of every action
like buying the raw material that’s needed to complete the product, creating the garment, finishing
the garments, documentation, ultimately shipping. A garment expect unit typically has several
departments like store, cutting, producing, packing, checking and much of others. Wherein
merchandising department, a linking tool of all. The process of a merchandiser is to coordinate
with the complete workplace as well as the customer. The merchandizer is the one who create a
great courting in between exporter and customer.
There are two type of merchandising which are practiced in the export of garment units
There are two type of merchandising which are skillful in the export of garment units
 Marketing merchandising
 Product merchandising
The most important cause of marketing merchandising is product improvement and costing of the
product.
Product merchandising accommodates all the duties from sourcing of materials to dispatching of
completed items and is finished inside the garment unit itself.
i. ROLE & FUNCTIONING OF DEPARTMENT:
 Development of latest garment style and samples and execution of the same

Internship Report Page 6

INTERNSHIP REPORT

 Garment costing primarily based on the order

 Arrangement of uncooked materials, add-one and trims for execution of an order
 Production scheduling
 Approval of patterns and diverse samples
 Follow up of preproduction sports
 Coordinating with inspection companies
 Production controlling

2. Product development:
i. SAMPLE AND SAMPLING ROOM WORKING:
Working of sampling is started when merchandiser requests for sample. When a customer is
interested in new order then request to product manager for sample and he send the size chart and
comments about what a sample he want to take. Then the customer send the sample of garment
and if he want to have changes in this sample, he writes comments. All the documents of specs,
operation are prepared by the Technologists. Then these documents are sent to the sampling
department. After receiving the documents from technologists, sampling department start work
on this sample and gives it an identification number.
 Forms the header of that fabric which is to be used for this sample and washing process is
applied on it to check the shrinkage behaviour.
 First makes its marker according to given measurements on Lectra. Shrinkages are also added in
these measurements.
 Send this marker to the pattern checking table where all measurements are checked carefully.
 Then cutting is done.
 After cutting, line in charge verify the threads and provides these verified threads, IE provides
the required machines for stitching.
 After cutting, sewing is done. All operations of same machine are completed by the same
operator for example all operations of O/L are completed by the same operator.
 When all stitching operations are completed then this garment is sent to the before wash finishing
table if required.
 Quality auditor checks and measures all measurements before wash.

Internship Report Page 7

INTERNSHIP REPORT

 During the whole process the Technologists remain in touch with all.
 Trim the long threads before wash to avoid the uneven shading.
 When product manager approves the wash then attach the wash card according to the size.
 Send the garment for washing.
 There are two times for sending the garments for washing, 11am and 3pm. After 24 hours,
garment is received from the washing.
 Then take full body measurements and note the shrinkage.
 Final checking (trimming if necessary)
 In final audit, check styling, specs, accessories measurements, all customer requirements,
mending.
 At the end after the approval of Technologists sample are ready.
 At the end, packing is done and garment is sent to the customer.

ii. Different types of samples;

Types of samples which are being used in KLASH are:
 Design sample.
 Fit sample or buying sample.
 Grade sample or Black seal sample.
 PP or correct sample.
 Production sample

Fabric cut according to consumption formula. The consumption formula of garment is

Consumption formula=Body length + Sleeve length × 𝐁𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐭𝐡 × 𝟐 ÷ 𝟏𝟓𝟓𝟎 × 𝐆𝐒𝐌 ÷ 1000

ii. Sewing:
Sewing is a process which is defined as;
“The act or process of using a needle and thread to make or repair something (such as a piece of
clothing).”
In KLASH Textile limited the work doing according to progressive bundle system.

iii. Progressive bundle system;

In progressive bundle system different worker do different jobs and one worker has its complete
command on an operation. In this system lines are maintained which have all types of sewing
machines required to complete a garment and cut pieces are fed in form of bundles. One operator
Internship Report Page 9
INTERNSHIP REPORT

passes bundle to the other operator after completing its own job.

 Operation breakdowns;
The work in each style is separated into activities. An activity is one of the procedures that must
be done in changing material into completed pieces of clothing. An activity breakdown is a
consecutive rundown of all tasks in included a piece of clothing, viewpoint or style. The sheet of
recorded activities of a style is like a manner called activity breakdown (OB). The activity
breakdown is finished to secure piece of clothing creation like line style and crease sorts utilized
in making the example article of clothing. Here and there activity breakdown is in like manner
known as piece of clothing activity release. Despite the fact that piece of clothing activity release
incorporates more prominent insights then the activity breakdown.

In garments operation breakdown operation is:

1. Machine name for specific operation
2. Non-stitching operation and sewing
3. Estimation of time of every operation in one unit
1. Broken Needle Policy:
It is totally unacceptable for a garment to be delivered along with broken needles to the customer.
Supplier can ensure that this never happens by following a formal broken needle procedure in
conjunction with a metal detection procedure.
 All spare needles must be held by the supervisor in a secure location.

Internship Report Page 10

INTERNSHIP REPORT

 It is unacceptable for extra needles to be kept by the operatives.

 Replacement needles must only be issued by the supervisor to machine operators, and
machine operator
 should be hand over broken needle to supervisor for new needle issuance or on a one new
needle for one complete needle basis.
 Mechanics must be fully aware of the needle replacement policy and ensure that no spare
needles are left in the sewing room.
2. Non-stitching operation and sewing
3. Estimation of time of every operation in one unit

4. Metal Detection Procedure:

It is possible only during production that a product which is either sewn or knitted can become
contaminated with extraneous metal objects such as needles, pins, staples or even clipper. To
enable the manufacturer & to minimize the risk of injury caused by such contamination, it is
recommended to all manufacturers to use a static conveyer metal detector as part of their
standard test procedure. To prevent stray metal from becoming incorporated within the
product, it is essential that staples, pins and wire are kept out of the production area and that
the broken needle procedure is strictly adhered to.

5. Finishing:
 Pressing/ pressing equipment:
“The application of heat, moisture and pressure to shape, mold or crease fabric or garment
part into the geometric forms intended by their designers is known as pressing”. In each
unit 4 to 5 workers are present for pressing. It is also done according to buyer demand.
There are some type of pressing equipments which are as follows:
 Hand iron: (Dry iron, Electric steam iron)
