1. What is social science? Give its meaning and objectives.


 A social science is any branch of academic study or science that deals with
human behavior in its social and cultural aspects. Usually included within the
social sciences are cultural (or social) anthropology, sociology, psychology,
political science, and economics. According to scholars, the objectives of social
science are to provide the knowledge of natural and social environment. It makes
us know how man can fulfill their needs. To develop human qualities in students.
To know duties towards human society.

2. Differentiate between science and society.


 Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the
natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence.
It involves a pursuit of knowledge covering general truths or the operations of
fundamental laws. It is also the study of the nature and behavior of natural things
and the knowledge that we obtain about them. On the other hand, society is a
community or group of people having common traditions, institutions, and
interests. It involved in persistent social interaction, or a large social group
sharing the same spatial or social territory, typically subject to the same political
authority and dominant cultural expectations.

3. Give the branches of social science.


 The branches of social science are anthropology, history, archaeology,
economics, law, geography, linguistics, sociology, political science, and
psychology.
 Anthropology encompasses the study of different aspects of the human
condition and delves deep into a society’ cultural moorings, and how over
the years culture has shaped human behavior.
 History straddles into different territories of time and explores every
aspect of it, tries to reconstruct the past for understanding of the present
through various resources available.
 Archaeology encompasses the study of the material culture, i.e. the
remains of past human life and associated activities from the specific past
by collecting its residual remains, found during the excavation process
and involves a subsequent analysis of these recent or prehistoric
materials.
 Economics emphasizes on understanding the way people spend and
utilize their available resources to satisfy their increasing demands. It is all
about distribution, production and consumption of resources.
 Law focuses on the laws that govern a country, its main provisions and
sections and how the constitution guarantees the enforcement of the law
in a country. In law, you can acquire the necessary skills to understand
different facets of laws and regulations on a national level as well as the
global level.
 Geography studies lands, their salient features, crucial phenomena that
impact the earth along with the human population and the relationship
between the study of land and the human population.
 Linguistics peruses upon how a language is formed, its main origins as
well as evolution. It explores the roots of every language, be it official
ones or local dialects and indigenous languages and understands their
role in defining the culture and traditions of a specific society.
 Sociology covers societal constructs like religion, class, caste as well as
social mobility, to name a few and further studies the role of an individual
in society at different levels and in terms of varied aspects.
 Political Science emerged as a significant field of study focusing on
different systems of governance as well as political ideas and discourse.
 Psychology delves deeper into the science of mind and human behaviour.
It is a unique amalgam of both theory and experiments and is an
intriguing discipline for those inclined towards the intricate human mind
and its multifarious aspects.

4. Discuss the importance of society.


 The society is important because it provides us with basic necessities of life such
as shelter, food, clothing, and education. All these things are necessary for our
survival and development. It also shapes our personality and character. It defines
what is right and what is wrong for us and instills values in us. It gives us a sense
of security and belonging. It makes us feel safe and accepted. We feel connected
to others and have a sense of purpose in life. Moreover, the ultimate purpose of
society is to foster a decent and happy life for each individual and to establish
the conditions and opportunities necessary for the full personality development
of each person. Society ensures harmony and cooperation among individuals in
spite of their occasional conflicts and tensions.
