.1. Define “History” based from the various perspectives given by historians.

Some of the historians have own definition of self. According to Edward Hallett Carr, anEnglish historian,
history is what the historian makes. Robin George also an English historian, defined it as the re-
enactment in the historian’s mind of the thought whose history he isstudying. While
Michael Joseph Oakeshott defined it as history is what is the historiansexperience. Based on
how the historians defined history, it simply implies that history is basedon how and what the historians
experienced during those time.

2. Why is the Filipino term for history “Kasaysayan”

History is called “kasaysayan” in Filipino because it simply means narrative, relevance, and importance
that in Filipino it means “saysay”. According to Zeus Salazar, historian, anthropologist, and
philosopher who is also the Father of New Philippine Historiography, historyis a meaningful narrative
that makes sense for the historical group of people. Saysay means theimportance of things, people, or
event. What is in the history are the important event that helpsus define on what we are now today. It
also means that it is not only describing to the eventsthat took place in the past but also it refers to the
meaning and importance of those event.

3. Explain how there are so little usable materials left to historians to use.

There are few usable materials left for historians to use because it is rare and difficult todocument what
is happening in history unlike today, we have tools that can be used to facilitatethe acquisition of
information and documentaries, just like cameras, recorders, and moderntechnologies. History is
about evidence and that’s why historians need to collect evidences and it is classified as primary and
secondary sources. Primary sources are first-hand information andcreated during the time it was studied
while secondary sources describe the information createdafter the fact. This bring us to the historical
methodology. Historical methodology is the processby which historian constructs an account of
the past. It involves the historian to examinesources, propose the hypothesis, testing hypothesis,
and arriving to a conclusion
