SEDEKAH BUMI

Hello, Everyone! I’m Nursila From Class 3DF02 Majoring in Financial

Management at Gunadarma University. Today, I wanna tell you about a traditional
ceremony in Indramayu precisely in my village in Pegagan, which is called
Sedekah Bumi. Sedekah Bumi is a ritual that is usually carried out by the Javanese
people, sedekah bumi means giving the earth or the intention of giving alms for the
welfare of the earth. The purpose and objective of holding the Sedekah Bumi is the
request of the farmers so that the crops in the future period will be successful.
Sedekah Bumi is held before the rice planting season. The first stage of preparation
is the committee formation meeting. The second stage is to raise funds for the cost
of Sedekah Bumi. The third stage is to prepare the main ceremonial equipment in
the form of sesajen. This sesajen is almost the same as the offering for the Mapag
Sri ceremony. The difference is, for Sedekah Bumi, the offerings are without
make-up. In the series of events there will be a Tumpeng parade and the creativity
of residents in the form of giant statues of various forms. Some are in the form of
demons, Indonesian ghosts, giant Tumpeng, and much more. The people who take
part in the parade will usually dress up, women will wear uniforms per RT or
kebaya while men will wear black peasant kombor clothes with a keris on the waist
and blanks on the head and batik cloth wrapped around the waist, also carrying a
hoe. After the parade ends, the residents will fight over the giant cone that was
brought around the village. then pray and eat together at Kibuyut Buntu. After that,
the event continued with a wayang kulit performance. I love wayang kulit, I always
watch it every time the event is held because coincidentally the venue is also close
to my house, only 20 meters away. In the past 4 years, sedekah bumi event in my
village lasted for 2 days and 2 nights, where on the first day until the evening there
was a Sandiwara theater performance and the next day the core event of the
sedekah bumi that is a tumpeng parade, tumpeng gathering, praying together,
fighting over tumpeng, eating together and followed by a wayang kulit show until
the next morning. The implicit meaning of this traditional ceremony is the request
of farmers to be blessed with fertility in the process of planting rice to harvesting,
as well as cultural preservation, and a gathering place for villagers. You need to
know, during the event there is a lot of traditional and modern snacks were
colonized. And all delicious and cheap. There are also many knick-knacks and
rides for games such as a Ferris wheel and a haunted house. It adds to the fun of
the charity event. Thats all about Sedekah Bumi. Thank you for watching this
Video. I hope you like it and see you in the next video.
