2. C 7. D 12. C
3. A 8. A 13. C
4. C 9. D 14. C
5. D 10. B 15. D

WHAT’S IN:
Elements of Fire Stages of Fire Man-made Causes of Fire
Oxygen Incipient Faulty electrical wiring or
connection
Heat Growth Neglected stove
Fuel Fully developed Unattended open flame like candles
or torches
Decay Neglected electrical appliances
Ignited flammable liquid
WHAT’S NEW:

A ship in the middle of the sea was on fire. It was due to the attack of a nearby enemy. There was no way
out. The passengers are panicking while some are jumping into the water. The only way to escape death due to
fire was jumping into the sea. Due to the fire, the control to the ship was lost. Worse, the ship was already
sinking. Everyone lost their hope and some stayed inside, waiting to die from drowning or be killed by the fire.

WHAT’S MORE:
1) Once you hear a fire alarm, evacuate immediately to a safe area.
2) Inform other people if they were ignorant of the situation of fire occurring.
3) Check for the possible exits when the fire is uncontrollably and rapidly spreading.
4) If there were already smoke in the area, stay low on the floor. Wet a towel or blanket and cover your
body and nose with it.
5) Once evacuated, do not attempt to go back to the fire area since there will be a less chance of escaping
again.

WHAT I CAN DO:

Be a Prudent and Responsible Student
Disasters come at the most unexpected time and fires are one of them. Thus as a student, we need to be
prepared at all cost. But, we also need to be responsible to prevent fires from occurring. Never leave open flame
unattended and don’t neglect your ignited stove. Keep the tank closed when not in use. Unplugged all used
appliances and avoid over-plugging or octopus wiring.

When you see a fire, immediately pull the alarm system. Inform other people about the situation as you
exit from the area. When you hear an alarm, do the same thing. As you exit, close the door and windows in
order to confine the fire and keep it under control. If the fire is still minor and controllable, use a fire
extinguisher to kill it. However, if is already uncontrollably spreading, exit immediately.

Once outside the fire area, do not attempt to go back since there will be a less chance to escape again.
Contact the nearest fire station and ask for help. If ever you are caught on fire, do the “STOP, DROP, Roll”
method immediately. However, if you are trapped inside a burning area and there were already smoke, wet a
towel or blanket and cover your nose and body with it.

Prevention is the best method in mitigating the impacts of disasters. Preparation is somewhat connected
with it. But being a responsible person will definitely help us save ourselves from a grave danger. So stand and
do something: be prepared for anything.
