Dear student,

In this guide you will learn to identify and use the zero, first and second conditional structures.
When using these structures, you will be able to express both factual implications and possibilities in
the present or near future. Besides, these structures will use When, As Soon As, Before, as linking
words to complete the ideas in the different sentences. For closing the contents and the activities
proposed for this guide, you will have the chance to develop your final product based on Green Cities.

Dear student, this guide is just a tool for you to develop and learn a very important subject such as
zero, first and second conditionals. Feel free to ask for a tutorial session if you think you need support
to overcome the shortcomings you find throughout this guide.

Your teacher is always ready and willing to help. Don´t hesitate to contact him/her.

PRODUCTION:
Record yourself giving a proposal speech like IF YOU WERE A COLOMBIA PRESIDENCY
CANDIDATE. You must dress up accordingly and use the grammar learnt. Include the next topics:

 Education
 Taxes
 Fracking
 Crimes
 "False positive" killings (unlawful killings of civilians)
 Environmental care

Remember: The video must have acceptable quality, excellent audio and last 3 min.

Feel free to use the pdf vocabulary when preparing your speech.

TIPS FOR YOUR SPEECH:

1. Get to the Point — Quick!

You can't start a speech until you are sure of your central point — the idea you need the audience to
remember, even if they remember nothing else.

2. Make it Look Easy

After deciding on a theme, you have to consider the tone of your speech. Always remember you're
writing a speech, not an essay. Your points have to be clearer and your sentences have to be shorter,
because people can understand a lot more complex things when they're reading than when they're
listening.

3. Get Them to Your Side

The Insiders warned that if an audience isn't listening, it doesn't much matter what you say. Try to
make audiences identify and sympathize with a speaker early on in a speech, so they'll want to hear
what he or she has to say.
