The Korean Traditional Music Publication Subcommittee has embarked


upon a wide-scale publication project of the complete traditional music and
dance forms of Korea, the first five volumes of which have now been published.

Each volume includes complete orchestral scores in western notation


accompanied by explanatory notes in English. Included also with each volume
are "A classification of Korean music", "The Instrumentation and Formation",
"The Explanation of the Korean Musical Instruments and Their Illustrations",
and one 8 inch 33 1/3 RPM-LP disc containing excerpts from the prited scores.

INTERNATIONAL FOLK MUSIC COUNCIL

The International Folk Music Council has pleasure in announcing that its
Twenty-first Conference will be held from August 27 to September 3, 1971,
at Kingston, Jamaica, by invitation of the Minister of Finance and Planning
of the Government of Jamaica. The Program Committee, Professor Klaus
Wachsmann, Chairman, has listed the following themes of papers to be
presented:

Folk Music and Dance in Education

The Process of Acculturation in Folk Music and Dance

The Impact of Electronic Technology on the


Practice and Study of Folk Music and Dance.

In addition to sessions devoted to Workshops and Demonstrations,


presentation and discussion of tape and film material, performances of
folk dance and folk song by authentic traditional Jamaican groups, the
Conference will include an excursion to country villages to see living
folklore, a visit to the Government archives and a West Indian Reference
Library and a visit to the site of archaeological and/or oceanographic
exploration.
