Set Up and Measurement

The diode and the Resistor were set up as below:

Figure: Diode-Resistor Circuit

The figure shows Voltage source Vi, current source Is, Resistance of the resistor R, Voltage drop
Vo.
The resistor is in series with the diode, this will help in achieving the purpose of the experiment.

Upon conducting the experiment, the following measurements were obtained;

Discussion

From the graph, we see that as Vo increases, Vi also increases up to around when V0 is over 1.5.
We also conclude there are numerous errors when computing with small input voltages. These
errors form the Vu and tend to affect the output voltage.
The analytical results were:
y = 0.812x – 0.3767
R2 = 0.9976
The resultant dynamic resistance is R2 = 0.9976

In order to do away with the considerable errors Vu, operational amplifiers are used.

When op-amp is used the resultant graph is as below;

In order to make the diode on, VA is made larger than the input voltage of the operational
amplifier.

In this, there are no considerable errors Vu hence the circuit gives more accurate output voltages.
The analytical results are:
y = 0.975x + 0.0071
R2 = 0.9947

Conclusion
The dynamic resistance and the turn –on voltage of the diode have been successfully determined.
The super diode-resistor circuit was achieved by the introduction of the operational amplifier.
The super diode-resistor circuit was successful in removing considerable errors that were
experienced in the diode-resistor circuit. All the output voltages were documented and dynamic
resistance documented.
