Reflection

Liberal arts have taught me soft skills such as research, rational reasoning, leadership,

teamwork, writing, and interaction in along with specific majors and specialties, rather than

focusing solely on one particular topic or skill. I have gained from liberal arts since core subjects

and major classes link to one another. I have created a foundation of core classes that

complement their major classes and career ambitions rather than seeing general education

courses as a checklist of irrelevant topics to dismiss before getting into the meat of my major.

I am now able to participate in some of the most significant contemporary issues, including the

ecosystem, foreign relations, social justice, and domestic and international security, thanks to my

liberal arts education.  The finest education challenges students to look beyond their personal

experiences and envision worlds that are distinct from their own in terms of time, place, and

cognition.  Liberal arts has given me the ability to view the human condition through a variety of

lenses. Because of the interdisciplinary thinking that a liberal arts degree fosters, I am better able

to observe phenomena as well as the very glasses through which I view the world. All of my

knowledge and how I acquired it are now open to examination, critique, and evaluation. I have

developed into a critical reader of both human experience and the filters people use to perceive

or "read" the world. Examining not just what others look at but also how they view it fosters

empathy and enables more fruitful and satisfying interactions between individuals who may be

extremely different from one another.

The liberal arts have a different meaning to me now that I've taken this course. For my

particular ideas and experiences, I believe it was appropriate. I have discovered that I lacked the

knowledge necessary to locate credible information or express my opinion appropriately. I also

believe that it has aided me in developing my ability to consider things from several angles and

to come up with my own opinions.
