Seeking appropriate accessories for our vehicle is adventurous. We have to ensure that the
accessories perfectly match both our standard and auto’s. If we have a vehicle, we ought to seek
an add-on which complements it. One of adds-on which is available aftermarket is push bars.
Front side of a vehicle is the most attractive part. We have to be very selective in choosing
accessories. Why do we have to install a push bar for the front section of our vehicles? That is
because it has a guard and modish function. First it is for safety. When we drive along the street, it
seems that collisions often happen. Of course we do not want the front side of our vehicle is to
become scratched or damaged. Preventing that further risk for collisions, a push bar is very helpful.
Installing accessories to a vehicle should increase the beauty sense. Modification is really an
art. By installing an appropriate push bar, a vehicle will look stronger, tougher, more muscle, but
keep elegant and soft. It will be clearly seen when it is compared to its original plain look.
So why do we keep a plain look if we can change it with an easy step? However, we have to
select the adds-on carefully to match well for our vehicles.

A. to look for. D. to look ahead.
B. to look after. E. to look back.
C. to look up.

All organisms, animals and plants must obtain energy to maintain basic biological functions for
survival and reproduction. Plants convert energy from sunlight into sugar in a process called
photosynthesis. Photosynthesis uses energy from sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide
molecules into glucose (sugar molecule) and oxygen. The oxygen is released from leaves while the
energy contained within glucose molecules is used throughout the plant for growth, flower formation and
fruit development.

b. The sunlight, oxygen and water.
c. The sunlight, glucose and water.
d. The sunlight, carbon dioxide and water.
e. The sunlight, carbon dioxide and glucose.

The bearing habit of a species can be described by the location and types of buds which produce
flowers and fruits. Flower buds are borne laterally on shoots or spurs. Although green unripe fruits are
photosynthetic, they require supplemental carbohydrates for proper development. In most fruit and nut
tree crop species, the majority of carbohydrates required for fruit development are acquired from two
sources, they are reserves stored from the previous growth season in adjacent branch tissue and
photosynthesis throughout the growing season in nearby leaves.

Penguin is aquatic, flightless bird. Most of their species live in cold climate area. They have adapt to
live in cold climates.
Penguins have to keep body temperatures high to remain active. They have thick skin and lots of fat
(blubber) under their skin to keep warm in cold weather.
They also huddle together with their friends to keep warm. Emperor penguins have developed social
behavior that when it gets cold, they huddle together in groups that may comprise several thousand
penguins.
The dark colored feathers of a penguin’s back surface absorb heat from the sun. it also keep them to
warm up too.
Penguins tightly packed feathers overlap to provide waterproofing and warmth. They coat their
feathers with oil from a gland near the tail to increase impermeability. Waterproofing is critical to
penguins’ survival in water. Antartic seas may be as cold as -2.2 oC (28oF) and rarely get above + 2oC
(35.6oF).
13. What is the text about?

Why does Urine Smell like Ammonia?
There are several causes why urine smells like ammonia; several are more serious than others. As
ammonia is made of nitrogen, the most common cause of the smell is thus eating various food that have
high concentrations of nitrogen: proteins, meats, eggs and the like, as well as a few vegetables like
asparagus. Eating lots of these will definitely bring a strong smell of ammonia to your urine.
Of course, urine itself does not smell; it is the concentration of various chemicals in it. When you
are dehydrated, there is less water in your urine, this results in a darker yellow color and a stronger odor
from all the concentrated chemicals. Sufficient amounts of water should be consumed each day to
prevent highly concentrated urine.
Another cause of ammonia smelling urine can be from a bacterial infection, in the kidneys the
urinary tract, or infection of the bladder and is most commonly found in women, simply because of the
positioning of anatomical features. Urinary tract infections lead to even stronger smelling urine than
concentrated ammonia and it smells much more foul, though there is a distinct ammonia odor.
Women also tend to get ammonia smelling urine after they go through menopause. This could
occur because of diet changes for weight control and water drinking is often very minimized at this time,
so it is important to drink lots of water during this time.
Other issues could be serious liver or kidney damage or disease, so it is very important to talk to
your doctor, if there are any other accompanying symptoms, which could include
burning sensations, itching, redness or rash, fever, or chills and the odorous urine lasts for more than a
few days.

16. The text is about ________.

A. an explanation about urine
B. a description of what urine is
C. the causes of ammonia smelling urine
D. the reason why people consume proteins
E. an explanation about bacteria that cause infections
17. “In fact, urine doesn’t smell.”
The statement is the main idea of paragraph ________.
A. one
B. two
C. three
D. four
E. five
18. “ ..., and it smells much more foul, though there is a distinct ammonia odor.” (Paragraph 3)
The underlined word has the closest meaning to ________.
A. different
B. strong
C. light
D. mild
E. stinking

19. Which food and vegetables may cause urine to smell like ammonia, if they are consumed
excessively?
A. Eggs, meat and carrots.
B. Meat, asparagus and beans.
C. Meat, eggs and asparagus
D. Meat, eggs and beans.
E. Asparagus and beans.
What causes your hair’s color to change? That has to do with the process of controlling the
production of the pigment called melanin, the same pigment that tans your skin in response to
sunlight.
Every hair follicle contains pigment cells called melanocytes. The melanocytes produce
eumelanin, which is black or dark brown, and pheomelanin, which is reddish-yellow, and pass the
melanin to the cells which produce keratin, the chief protein in hair. When the keratin-producing cells
(keratinocytes) die, they retain the coloring from the melanin.
When you first start to go gray, the melanocytes are still present, but they become less active.
Less pigment is deposited into the hair so it appears lighter. As graying progresses, the melanocytes
die off until there aren’t any cells left to produce the color.
While this is a normal and unavoidable part of the aging process and is not of itself associated
with disease, several autoimmune diseases can cause premature graying. However, several people
start going gray in their 20s and are perfectly healthy. Extreme shock or stress can also cause your
hair to go gray very quickly, though not overnight.
Smoking is also known to increase the rate of graying. Anemia, generally poor nutrition,
insufficient B vitamins and untreated thyroid conditions can also speed the rate of graying.

20. What is the text about?

A. What grayish hair is.
B. The reason why hair turns gray.
C. The explanation how hair turns gray.
D. The description of gray and black hair.
E. The difference between gray and white hair.
21. What are keratinocytes?
A. Cells which produce melanin.
B. Cells which make keratin.
C. Cells which cause hair falls.
D. Cells which produce color of hair.
E. Hair follicls which contains pigment cells.
22. From the text we can conclude that ________.
A. smoking increases the rate of graying
B. the melanin is the chief protein in hair
C. eumelanin produces reddish-yellow color of hair
D. sufficient B vitamins can speed the rate of graying
E. shock or stress does not have to do with the graying
The light used in photosynthesis is absorbed by a green pigment called chlorophyll. Each food-
making cell in a plant leaf contains chlorophyll in small bodies called chloroplasts. In chloroplast, light
energy causes water drawn from the soil to split into hydrogen and oxygen.
What are the steps of photosynthesis process? Let me tell you the process of photosynthesis, in
a series of complicated steps. The hydrogen combining with carbon dioxide from the air, forms a
simple sugar. Oxygen from the water molecules is given off in the process. From sugar together with
nitrogen, sulphur and phosphorus from the soil-green plants can make starch, fat, protein, vitamins
and other complex compounds which are essential for life. Photosynthesis provides the chemical
energy that is needed to produce these compounds.

23. Which of the following titles is suitable for the text?

A. What is Photosynthesis?
B. Why does Photosynthesis Occur?
C. Where does Photosynthesis Occur?
D. How is the Light Used in Photosynthesis?
E. Why does Photosynthesis Need the Sunlight?
24. What are chloroplasts?
A. Food-making cells in a plant leaf storing chlorophyll.
B. Food-making cells in a plant root producing chlorophyll.
C. Food-making cells in a plant leaf absorbing chlorophyll.
D. Food-making cells in a plant leaf distributing chlorophyll.
E. Food-making cells in a plant root reusing chlorophyll.

If you have unsightly stains on your pillowcase, don’t worry because you are absolutely not
alone. Pillows often get stained by sweat and natural body oils. Sometimes, simply tossing them in
the washer will do the trick and lift the stain right out. However, if this standard isn’t cutting it and the
frustration is keeping you up at night, it’s probably time to try another tactic.
Oily stains on pillowcases can be removed with plain shampoo or even liquid dish detergent.
Simply apply to the area, rub it in and allow to sit for a little while. Rinse it out and then launder as you
would normally. It’s that easy!
Another fun fix involves something every parent has lying around – white chalk. All you have
to do is rub the chalk over the oil stain, then let it set for about 15 minutes. Shake or brush off every
extra chalk bits, then wash as normal.
