RECOMMENDATION TO EDF GROUP

Road risk in EDF group

Safe Operating Principles


In addition to any external local requirements, this document sets out our core operating
guiding principles associated with managing road risk within EDF group. Through these
principles, our aim is to significantly reduce the risks associated with our driving activities and
prevent avoidable injury to our employees.

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COMPANY:

activities undertaken. This practice is already done in some part of EDF group (EDF
Energy and ERDF) and reviewed by the Company every year.

Guidelines or best practices 4. Provision of fit for purpose vehicles


 Vehicles used on EDF business are fit for purpose. This should consider the
roadworthiness of the vehicle and furthermore include both the suitability of the vehicle in
relation to the task and the ergonomic fit of the person to the vehicle.
 The use of a motorcycle at work is generally prohibited and can only be authorised if the
result of the risk assessment can demonstrate low risk.
 Vehicles used on EDF business are appropriately maintained. This requires that any
vehicles used to drive on company business must be serviced and checked in accordance
with the company and/or manufacturers’ requirements. (this includes vehicles that are
subject to additional licensing and specific testing e.g. Large Good Vehicles)
 Valid Insurance of the vehicle for business purposes is demonstrated.

5. Control:
 All reported road traffic incidents are promptly investigated, analysed and followed by
corrective action.

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE EMPLOYEE:

1. General responsibility
 Employees driving on company business are expected to drive within the laws of their
respective country (e.g. speed limits and licensing restrictions etc…) and not take any
unnecessary risks, even in emergency situations.
 In order to contribute to safety and also to preserve the company reputation, drivers have
to treat other employees and road users with appropriate respect and dignity, conducting
themselves in a professional and considerate manner.
 Drivers have to ensure that to the best of their knowledge they are fit to drive and also to
comply with the company policy on alcohol and drugs (this includes both prescribed and
self medicated).

2. Authorisation to drive
 In order to drive on company business, whether using a company, hired or personal
vehicle, the driver must have a valid driving licence for the category of vehicle he will drive

 Where employees provide their own vehicle for use on Company business, it is the

 Take time to familiarise themselves with the major features and operations of the vehicle
(e.g. in case of renting, what are the key controls and how do they work),

 All drivers are asked to report any driving incident that occurs in the course of driving on
company business. This will include any collision or near miss.
