Session 1: (Title) Solve Me
Duration of Session: 1.5 hours
Target Audience GRADE 4 PUPILS
Session Goal At the end of the session, the participants are expected
to solve routine and non-routine problems involving
multiplication of whole numbers including money using
appropriate problem solving strategies and tools.
Key Understandings to be developed Display understanding on the different activities,
strategies and approaches in solving routine and non-
routine problems involving multiplication of whole
numbers including money using appropriate problem
solving strategies and tools.

5 minutes Introductory Activity Introduction:
Do:
Set the session by short greetings, introducing yourself
to the learners. Set some session rules for the virtual
learning session. State the focus/overview so that the
participants will be properly directed. Make emphasis on
active participation through question and answer at the
end of the session.

Ask and flash these questions:


1. What do you do when you analyze a problem?
2. What is the difference between routine and non-routine
problems?
3. How do you solve routine and non-routine problems?

Drill on Identifying the given data in a problem

● Post a simple problem involving multiplication of


whole numbers.
● The pupils will be given 15 seconds to answer each
question and write their answers on the chat box.
● The first who gets the correct answer will be the
winner.
● Then, lead the pupils to solve the problem.
(Slide 4 to 11).
Process the activity
After the activity, facilitate the discussion by asking the
following questions:
1. How did you get the answer?
2. What steps did you follow to get your answer?
