Session 5: Quarter 2 SOLVE ME!
Duration of Session: 1.5 hours
Target Audience Grade 5 Learners
Session Goal At the end of the lesson, the participants are
expected to perform the given activities and solve
routine and non-routine problems involving
division without and with any of the other
operations of decimals and whole numbers
including money using appropriate problem
solving strategies and tools.
Key Understandings to be developed Displayed understanding in different activities,
strategies and techniques in solving routine and
non-routine problems involving division without
and with any of the other operations of decimals
and whole numbers including money.
Learning Objectives - Identify the steps, strategies and techniques
in solving word problems involving division
without and with the other operations of
decimals and whole numbers.
- Solve word problems involving division of
decimals and whole numbers.
- Show participation and cooperation in
virtual class.

___5___minutes Introductory Activity Introduction:
Do: Set the session by a short prayer, greetings
and introduce yourself to the learners. Set some
rules for the virtual learning session. Tell the
outline/focus of the session so that the
ENHANCED MATHEMATICS TEACHING AND LEARNING PROGRAM(EMTAP) SESSION GUIDE
participants will be oriented and motivated in the
entire session.

___50__minutes Learning Activity Activity:

Review
Find the quotient of the following.
a. 3.6 ÷ 4
b. 0.56 ÷ 7
c. 9.3 ÷ 3
d. 0.25 ÷ 5
e. 0.8 ÷ 2

● Divide the class into two groups. Group 1

will be represented by the boys and group 2
will be represented by the girls. The two (2)
groups will compete in finding the quotient
of the given numbers.
● You (teacher) will flash the expression on
the screen.
● The learners will be given 30 seconds to find
the quotient and write their answer on the
comment box. The fastest player/group to
give the answer will get the point. The group
with the most number of points will be
declared as the winner.

See Slide No. 2 to 6

Process the Activity:
Do: Facilitate the discussion by asking these
questions:
● Have you been to a computer shop?
● What did you do there?
● How much did you spend every time you
went to the computer shop?
(Note: Elicit active participation of the learners
and let them write their answer on the comment
box)

I have a word problem here related to computer
shop.
Mang Estong operates a computer shop. Elmer is one
of his regular customers and usually pays Php 128.80
for 4 hours of surfing the Internet for his projects and
assignment. How much is the hourly rate of Mang
Estong’s shop?
Ask:
1. What is asked in the problem?
2. What are the given facts?
3. What operation is used to solve the
problem?
4. What is the mathematical sentence?
5. What is the answer to the problem?
6. How do you know if your answer is correct?

(Note: Elicit active participation of the learners and

let them write their answer on the comment box).
See Slide No. 11 to 13
Problem #2
A group of 30 pupils signed up for a
weekend computer course. They paid a total
of Php 425.50. How much did each pupil pay?
Performing Activity
Ask the following questions:
1. What is asked in the problem?
2. What is/are the given numbers?
3. What is the operation to be used?
4. What is the mathematical sentence?
5. What is the answer to the problem?

understanding of the lesson)

Present this word problem to the pupils

Problem 3
In an EPP class, Jian made 8 hamburgers
for lunch, using 1.36 kg of ground beef. How
much ground beef was in each hamburger?

Ask these questions:

1. What is asked in the problem?
2. What are the given numbers?
3. What operation or formula to be used?
4. What is the mathematical sentence?
5. Show your solution.
6. Check and Look back
(Note: Let the pupils write their answer on the
comment box)

See Slide No. 19 to 23

____10____minute Analysis Do: Let the participants solve the given word
s problem on division of decimals and whole
numbers.
(Note: Elicit answers from the participants)

1. If a car travels a distance of 186.15

kilometers in 4 hours, what is its average
speed?
2. Mrs Alvin bought 7 mangoes for Php 59.50.
How much did each mango cost?
