SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 4

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Identify the meaning of unfamiliar words with multiple meanings;
b. Manifest cooperation in identifying the meaning of unfamiliar words with multiple
meanings; and
c. Write words with multiple meanings.

A. Preliminary Activities

5. Review
The teacher will let the students read an informational text.
Have them identify the reality and fantasy from the text they read.

6. Motivation: Pictionary
The teacher will show picture and let students say something about it.

a. What can you say about the pictures?


b. Are they the same?

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity:
Match the sentence and its picture.
Here is one of the sentences taken form the selection “Kite Flying”. Let us read
and study it.

“He made them think that a new star had appeared as a sign of divine help.”
2. Analysis/Discussion
The teacher will ask the following questions:
a. What was meant by the sentence?
b. What is meant by the word star? sign?
c. Did you analyze how it was used in the context?

The teacher will discuss the following:


 Some words have multiple meanings. The specific meaning can be
identified through context clues.

Star
- heavenly body of burning gases that can be seen in the sky
- a figure with ten sides
- an outstanding talented performer

Sign
- to affix signature
- symbol used in a mathematical operation
- an event or action which shows that something else will happen

3. Abstraction/Generalization
a. How were you able to choose the correct meaning?
b. What did you consider to get the correct meaning?

4. Application
PAIR WORK. Study the words in bold face. Find a related word in the sentence
which explains their meaning. Draw a line form its each sentence to the correct
picture.

IV. Evaluation
Choose the correct meaning of the underlined word in each sentence. Write the letter of
the correct answer in your notebook.

V. Assignment
