APPLICATION & PROCESSING
THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO PROCESS SPARKS COLORS:
OPTION 1: For maximum color vibrancy and durability, you must
pre-lighten hair with Sparks Powder Lightener and Sparks Creme Developer.
LIGHTENING GUIDE

Palest Yellow or Almost White

NOTE: The level of lift achieved will affect the longevity, brightness and vibrancy of the
final shade. The hair’s undertone must be considered, as it will contribute to the final shade.
Reference the chart above for recommended lift level for its corresponding shade.
TO PRE-LIGHTEN: Pour contents of the Sparks Powder Lightener packet into a non-
metallic bowl. Add 3 oz (90 ml) of Sparks Creme Developer and mix together until a smooth,
creamy consistency is achieved. Apply to desired hair 1/4 inch off the scalp through to the
ends. Once completed, go back in and apply lightener to the hair nearest the scalp. Let
process until the desired tone is achieved. Shampoo with Sparks Color Care Sulfate-free
Shampoo, Rinse thoroughly.
CAUTION: Do not apply lightener to hair that has been previously lightened or that is not
in optimal condition. Periodically stretch the hair during processing to see if it remains elastic.
If you stretch the hair and it breaks or is not elastic, remove lightener and condition the hair.

OPTION 2: Sparks colors may be applied to virgin hair or to hair that has been previously
colored but not lightened, however, the color will not be nearly as vibrant nor will it last as
long in the hair. Depending on condition, porosity and texture of the hair, naturally light and/
or tinted hair may hold Sparks shades for a longer period.

1. Before applying Sparks, hair must be freshly shampooed and thoroughly dried.
2. Do not mix Sparks with any developer or peroxide. Apply the desired color directly to the hair.
3. Process for 20 minutes at room temperature.
4. Thoroughly shampoo with Sparks Color Care Sulfate-free Shampoo, rinse from the hair
until the rinse water runs clear.

IMPORTANT: Hair color durability is extended by using Sparks Color Care Sulfate-
free Shampoo and Sparks Color Care Protecting Conditioner for home maintenance. One
should also avoid chlorinated pools or salt water and prolonged exposure to sunlight. After
shampooing, rinse with cool water for maximum color durability.

CAUTION: Sparks color may be very long-lasting and in most cases cannot be fully
removed from the hair. If a return to a more natural color is desired, it is best to lighten the
Sparks color by applying Sparks Powder Lightener and Sparks Creme Developer and process
for no more than 10 minutes. Shampoo with Sparks Color Care Sulfate-free Shampoo and dry
hair and apply a more natural looking color to the hair. Sparks colors are direct staining dyes
and may stain or “bleed” onto other pre-lightened hair on the same head. Very porous hair
may not hold Sparks shades.
