Introduction
The Adopt-a-Plant scheme is a wellbeing project that provides
opportunities for postgraduate researchers to network and socialise
around shared experiences of researching at ground, while cultivating
plants and learning craft activities.
Growing fruit with children offers a unique chance to teach them about
the importance of healthy foods and nutrition. Whether the fruit-eaters
are children, animals or impoverished neighbors -- fruit trees take
advantage of Mother Nature's natural resources system...and deliver
shade, soil conditioning, food for wildlife...and food for humans and our
animals. And it lasts for decades! That's a lot for one simple plant to gift
us with.
Trees in your backyard can be home to many different types of wildlife.
They can also reduce your heating and cooling costs, help clean the air,
add beauty and color, provide shelter from the wind and sun, and add
value to your home.
Trees help to clean the air we breathe. Through their leaves and bark,
they absorb harmful pollutants and release clean oxygen for us to
breathe. In urban environments, trees absorb pollutant gases like
nitrogen oxides, ozone, and carbon monoxide, and sweep up particles
like dust and smoke. Increasing levels of carbon dioxide caused by
deforestation and fossil fuel combustion trap heat in the atmosphere.
Healthy, strong trees act as carbon sinks, offset carbon and reducing
the effects of climate change.

 Tree plantation is the main requirement for maintaining a

balance in the environment. Planting trees has many benefits to
all living beings.

 If you are buying a tree for the spring flowers and fall fruits, this
may be a consideration. In warmer climates, there may not be a
long enough period of cool temperatures for some species, such
as apples, to develop flowers.

 When planting a small tree, it is often difficult to imagine that in

20 years it could be shading your entire yard. Unfortunately, many
trees are planted and later removed when the tree grows beyond
the dimensions of the property.

Objective of planting plants

 To promote the planting of trees as a lifestyle.
 To raise awareness on the dangers of deforestation.
 To mobilize resources for the expansion of woodland .
 To monitor and support communal afforestation efforts.
The main objective in tree planting is to allow a tree to be
securely placed in the ground so that it can grow and thrive. Trees
take many years to grow and must be closely monitored until
established.

Trees are essential for greenery and important part of the

environment planting trees is to restore native forests around the
village to protect water supplies. Tree plantation means planting
more trees in a planned way. It is very necessary for the
environment. Many things have been created by Allah for the
welfare of human beings. They have made related to nature.
Nature helps us in many ways. Planting of trees and their care is a
holy act. Trees are the most part of nature. They are gifts of
nature. It also help in various ways :-
 Reducing the impacts of air pollution because plants provides
oxygen to nature which reduces air pollution.
 Trees helps to be Natural noise barrier.
 It locks the land reduces top soil erosion.
 Trees help in lowering the surrounding temperature.
 Prevention of vehicle glare from vehicles coming from opposite
direction

COMMON PLANTING PROBLEMS

❖ LACK OF MINERAL RECYCLING AND NUTRIENTS
Trees in our landscape frequently suffer from a lack of nutrients. In the
forest, trees enjoy the benefits of nutrient-rich soil from decomposing
leaves.
 In our yard, we remove fallen leaves, twigs, and bark. While this
keeps our yard tidy, it also prevents these beneficial nutrients
from being recycled into the soil.
 Plus, trees are often surrounded by grass, which outcompetes
trees for available nutrients and water.

❖ COMPACTED SOILS :- In our yards, trees often grow in

compacted soil :-
 Our yard is our backyard getaway. We run, play, walk, and enjoy
our yard constantly.
 All that foot traffic, along with lawn mowers and construction
projects, creates soil compaction. Plus, major soil compaction
occurred when your house was built, so if your home is newer, it’s
likely you’ll see this problem.
 Compacted soil leads to stressed soil, crushed root, and restricted
root growth.

❖ MECHANICAL AND NATURAL DAMAGE :-

Lawn equipment and animals can damage our trees :
 Deer and rabbits sometimes harm the trees by eating them and
sometimes dig the sand to rest in the sand that lowers their
temperture .
 Plus, as we use lawn mowers and string trimmers, we can
accidentally hurt tree trunks.
 When wounded by lawn equipment or hungry animals, these
injuries interrupt trees' spread of water and nutrients.
❖ RESTRICTED ROOT SPACE:-
As trees grow, their expansive roots run into obstacles.
 When we plant those tiny tree saplings, they seemed far enough
from the road.
 As trees grow, roots often spread well beyond the edges of its
canopy.
 Then, they begin to run into barriers, such as buildings, roads,
and sidewalks, that limit root growth.

Benefits of planting plants and trees

 Provide the oxygen at day time.
 Trap and store carbon, reducing the atmospheric greenhouse
gases which cause global warming.
 Bring rain to the land and play a crucial role in the world's water
cycle.
 Store water and reduces top soil erosion by locking it which
increases the fertility of the soil.
 Protect the soil and increase surrounding soil fertility.
 Supply biomass for fuel needs and fertility.
 Offer shade from the sun.
 Provide windbreaks.
 Filter dust and clean the air of other airborne contaminants.
 Provide valuable wood, fruits, nuts, flowers, medicines, and other
resources for humans.
 Provide fodder, habitat, and other resources for other livestock
and wildlife.

Planting trees, whether on a large or small scale, can be an

important step in forging a sustainable future for our planet and
for humanity. Combined with protecting existing forests and
forest resources, your support for any of the above projects all
helps us combat the worst of climate change and aids
environmental protection.

Various Steps taken to achieve the

objectives
 Cleaning the site
 Digging a hole
 Obtaining the plant
 Watering the seedling
 Removing the plant from the pot
 Placing the plant in the hole
 Covering the roots with soil
 Gently packing the soil around the tree
 Watering the plant in its new home
 Putting up a fence to keep animals from eating the seedling.

o Designing a proper layout is important because it has a

direct relationship with efficiency of operations and cost
of production. A poorly designed layout will result in
inefficiencies and losses throughout the existence of the
plant.

o As Decisions regarding plant layout cannot be taken once

and for all. Changes in process and techniques of
production necessitate changes in plant layout. It is
therefore important to design the layout in such a way
that it is flexible to change.

o Trees (and shrubs) can be planted any time of the year

that you can dig the proper planting hole. However,
there are better times than others for multiple reasons.

o Suffice it to say, the more time you can put between

when you plant a tree, and the arrival of summer, the
better. That makes fall the very best time of year to
relocate trees and shrubs or plant new ones. Early spring
is a popular time as well.
o Trees can bring people together. They can act as a
landmark within a neighbourhood and encourage pride
amongst people within that community.

o Trees and woodland areas can be used to bring people

together for educational purposes. They also allow for
activities such as walking or birdwatching. In addition,
they give children somewhere to play in and feel a sense
of adventure.

Ecological and Environmental Significance

Trees greatly contribute to their environment by providing oxygen,
supporting wildlife, improving air quality, conserving water, preserving
soil, and climate amelioration. By only performing its primary function
of photosynthesis, it contributes more than it takes. Trees take in the
carbon dioxide in the air and produce oxygen for living, breathing
organisms around it. A study suggests that an acre of forest can
produce up to 4 tons of oxygen by absorbing 6 tons of carbon dioxide
that can cater to around 20 people for a year.

Not only trees but shrubs and turf also have their own role to play on
this process. They purify the air by absorbing the pollutants such as
carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide. Once they have
come in contact with the trees, the pouring rain washes all the
pollutants away. Through this process, the air in the atmosphere is
regulated and maintained, all thanks to the trees. Climate change and
control are also one of the essential functions of trees. The moderate
the effects of sun, rain, and wind in order to keep the climate in control.
The beaming energy of the sun is absorbed and filtered by the leaves
that help to keep a cool temperature around it.

The most important function that they perform keeps greenhouse

gases at bay is how trees can lower the air temperature, maintain low
levels of carbon dioxide, and thereby reducing the greenhouse effect in
the atmosphere. Apart from that, they also conserve the warmth by
acting as a shield to harsh winds, heavy rain, sleet, and hail. Therefore,
trees can manage and influence wind speed and direction in order to
maintain a balanced atmosphere.

Be it above the surface or below, trees have a pivotal role to play in

the ecosystems in which they live. The far-reaching roots of the trees
help the soil to be in place and counter erosion. Trees are the reason,
soil erosion is not a common phenomenon. They absorb the rainwater
and store it that reduces runoff and sediment deposits after heavy
storms.

Effectiveness of planting plant trees

 The oxygen we need to survive comes from a few
irreplaceable sources on our planet, and trees are one of
them. Oxygen is naturally released as a by-product of a
tree’s photosynthesis, where they pull in carbon dioxide
from the atmosphere.
 The benefits of planting trees to absorb these gases is truly a
no-brainer. Trees soak up CO2 naturally, creating cleaner,
healthier air for us.
 The first obvious benefit of planting trees is they create
homes for wildlife. Dozens of critters, insects, and birds use
trees as shelter, food sources, and homes. Planting trees
also contribute to growing the diversity of flora and fauna in
the area..

Tree planting is perceived to be the most engaging,

environmentally friendly activity that people can take part in
to make the planet a better place. For thousands of years,
the earth has used trees to combat climate change. Life
cannot exist without the presence of trees on the planet.
They have long-term and short-term benefits as well. Most
people decide to enhance their gardens with trees for their
aesthetic beauty, connecting with nature, or for their
calming effect. However, trees do more to the environment
than we might think. They enhance air quality, slow down
heavy rains and reduce flooding, prevent excessive heat and
provide shade and remove carbon from the atmosphere.

CONCLUSION
Investing in trees will result in sustainable cities with happier and healthier people.
We reviewed the substantial evidence to better understand the tangible and real
benefits that trees provide. While there are considerations, planting and protecting
trees is a real solution to many of society's challenges, offering high potential with
relatively small input and energy. The results can be profound in the long term. In
particular, the five categories of benefits outlined in this article (health and social
well-being, cognitive development and education, economy and resources, climate
change mitigation and habitat, and green infrastructure) are of particular importance,
especially as there is a great global migration into cities. While previous work
illustrated that trees can help in many regions, this review demonstrates that planting
and protecting of trees can directly and indirectly contribute to 15 of the 17 goals.
This is more than previously described. the planting and protecting of trees supports
the United Nation's New Urban Agenda (NUA). The NUA, which was created to
promote the development of sustainable cities, stresses the importance of green and
quality public spaces, as well as green infrastructure . For people to receive their
benefits, the urban forest needs to be healthy and diverse to create the most
sustainable and livable communities possible.

If we want to have the benefits of urban trees in the future, we must think of our urban
forests as an investment. Like any investment, if trees are not cared for, they
depreciate in value and can become a liability. Through planting and care,
however, urban forests can have compounding benefits, trickling through every
layer of society, leading to a better world. As the proverb says, “The best time to plant
a tree is twenty years ago, the second best time is now.”
We must act now for a better world
