1. Discuss how Melissa’s communication style impacted the performance of the Italian
partners?
Ans: Prior to Melissa's arrival in Venice, communication between Melissa's company and the
partner company had been linear. We know this because Melissa's employees were requested
by the cooperating company to supply information, but they refused. Given the locations and
time zones of both businesses, the request most likely came in the form of an email or note.
Melissa knew that the expectations of the partnering company were not being met and she was
prepared to repair her company's reputation by fixing any problems. Her communication style
had a significant impact on Melissa's performance with her partners during her stay in Italy. In
the first face-to-face meeting, Melissa used her skills in active listening to provide her audience
with quick feedback.

2. What do you think were the primary sources of information prior to Melissa’s visit?
Ans: The primary sources of knowledge at the company before Melissa's visit were her
coworkers. After Melissa's travel plans had been finalized with the partnering company, she
learned about the challenges the Italian partner faced in trying to receive information from the
US partner. If Melissa hadn't told them about her travel plans in advance, she might not have
been ready to address any problems her partner had.
