Introductory Message

Welcome to TLE 9 – ICT (Illustration)!


The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative
efforts of the Schools Division of Capiz and DepEd Regional Office VI -
Western Visayas through the Curriculum and Learning Management
Division (CLMD). This is developed to guide the learning facilitators
(teachers, parents and responsible adults) in helping the learners meet
the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.
The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional
materials aimed to guide the learners in accomplishing activities at
their own pace and time using the contextualized resources in the
community. This will also assist the learners in acquiring the lifelong
learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and
employment.
For learning facilitator:
The TLE 9 – ICT (Illustration) Activity Sheet will help you
facilitate the teaching-learning activities specified in each Most
Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face
encounter between you and learner. This will be made available to the
learners with the references/links to ease the independent learning.

help you continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning
material provides you with meaningful and engaging activities for
independent learning. Being an active learner, carefully read and
understand the instructions then perform the activities and answer the

II. Background Information for Learners
Are you drawing or illustrating? This is a right question to begin with,
in order to get familiar with the course.
A drawing is an art of representing an object or outlining a figure, plan
or sketch by means of lines.
On the other hand, an illustration can be presented in the form of a
drawing, painting or any printed work of art that explains a text or
concept. It serves to support and better translate ideas, texts and/or
further explain them, created purely on graphics tablets and watch videos
of people paint masterpieces from scratch with nothing more than a digital
pen.
Let us explore the numerous roles that exist within the wider illustration
industry.

Illustration Job/Careers Description


1. Cartoonist ● Creates simplified,
single-paned drawings
usually with a one-line
caption.
2. Book Illustrator ● Works alongside an author to
produce artwork that will
accompany the story in a
book.
3. Comic Artist ● Uses sequential images to
develop characters and plots
through comic strips and
books.
4. Medical Illustrator ● Depicts body parts and
aspects of operation in order
to help medical
professionals.
5. Storyboard Illustrator ● Plan out all the shots before
production begins.
6. Fashion Illustrator ● Typically works in either a
design or advertising setting
to bring clothing ideas to life.

Now, your job as an illustrator may fall into three categories: be an
employee, a freelancer or a direct sales illustrator.
• Employee - working full-time at a company. This means a "
conventional " job at an office, with a boss.
• Freelancer - doing commissions for clients. This means being paid by
various clients to work on specific projects for them. You usually work
from home.
• Direct sales illustrator - selling art directly to the public. This means
selling finished artwork directly to buyers. You are working merely for
yourself, not for clients.
No matter where you end up, an illustration job will definitely give you
the opportunity for creative expression. Surely, as you start this course, you
are taking the first step.
